My name is Judy. After 45 years of nursing, I retired in 2014. I lost my husband to multiple myeloma in January after 47 years of marriage. I have been active in a hospice support group making friends. Losing a loved one, we are in a club we did not ask to join. About 17 years ago I lost 40#, but I have never been able to keep off the last 35#. I lose 10# or so and then I lose interest or gain it back. With the help of Spark People support, I was able to lose 35# this last 5 years and keep it off. I have been able to stick to an exercise program. I am motivated to continue working on maintaining my healthy lifestyle. At this point, I am able to get exercise minutes by using my recumbent bike. I want to get back to recording my exercise minutes and hopefully lose another 10-15#.

My Goals:
To lose 10-15 more pounds and continue to make exercise part of my life.

My Program:
Eating smaller portions and doing at least 30 minutes of exercise daily.

Personal Information:
I was born in Wisconsin but moved to the Pacific Northwest in 2000. I love the weather here in Walla Walla and consider myself a Washingtonian. I had been married for 47 years before losing my husband to cancer this year. I have three grown children, who live in Golden CO. and New York. I have one dachshund. I had two but one passed away and is in heaven with my husband. Life is precious and I want to enjoy each day.

Other Information:
I love to travel, being outdoors, and gardening. I enjoy walking and biking. These activities were put on the back burner when my husband was ill. I have had two knee replacements and have done well with them. I have a rare autoimmune disorder called localized scleraderma or morphea, which does cause some pain in my joints. I also love sewing, knitting, crocheting, scrap booking, cross stitching, and quilting.

    Hi Judy, I am new to SparkPeople! I am finding it outstanding.

    I hope things are going well for you. I commend you for your weight loss thus far.
    I notice you are part of the Multiple Myeloma Team. I am as well. Would this group interest you? And if so, perhaps you have a few questions for others. I have been challenged by weight gain from the steroids, I am taking. I wonder if others have the same issue. My best to you. Elizabeth

    Judy, thank you so much for the flowers (they made my day)! And I usually have visited the ocean a couple times each year, but the move kind of took over those trips this year. We'll get there. Things are slowly getting back to normal (and I am starting to find lost items!)
