Oh, you want to know a little bit about me? Okay... hmmm... well, all my life I have been a fairly active, high-energy person. I grew up sailing, playing soccer and tennis. In high school I fell in love with running and did something active every day. College was a different story, though. I was no longer on the tennis team and no longer had time for running. Instead, I had a sedentary, high-stress life for four years and I had plenty of late nights either at the library or out with my sorority sisters. I wouldn't trade my college years - I had a wonderful time and I met my sweet and handsome husband. But exercise and eating right definitely took a backseat. After college, I cranked up my stress level even higher, moving to Washington, D.C. for law school. Long nights with my law books and Chinese takeout, and very little exercise, took a toll. Then on top of that, I got married after my second year, got into cooking and baking, and spent a few years gazing into my hubby's eyes instead of running around my neighborhood.

This year I made a commitment to eating more healthfully and upping my activity level. I have cut out most meat and dairy from my meals (I refuse to say "diet") and focused on eating mostly whole foods, especially fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. I've also rediscovered my love for being active. Over the past few years, my husband and I have gotten into hiking and cycling. I've started running again and remembered how happy it used to make me. And I've also mixed in some newer (to me) forms of exercise, like strength training and yoga. I also love kayaking and mountain biking and pretty much anything I can do outdoors in nature.

My Goals:
-Run a 10K

-Climb Old Rag in Shenandoah National Park

-Ride a metric century bike race


My Program:
-Working on building running endurance, first through Couch-to-5K, then One Hour Runner, and building a solid foundation of 5K races as I work up to longer distances.

-Hikes almost every weekend to prepare for Old Rag.

-Riding on the bike trail near my house on weekends, gradually adding distance.
