Fat but not Fabulous...

When you're 5'5" tall, and find that you out-weigh your 6'5" husband by 30+ lbs it's time to smarten the heck up.

So, I'm back on track - again.

I'm 52 years old and have been married to a great guy for 25 years. We have 2 teenage daughters age 20 and 22, and live on a small hobby farm with our 2 dogs Piper and Riley, a quarter horse named Windy, my daughter's house cat Elton, and 2 barn cats. Our barn cats (Monica and Phebe) were dumped here a few years ago but are very greatful for the warm leftovers and barn to bed down in and show their appreciation by leaving us gifts of various rodents - cute but gross. They get along great with the dogs who we adopted in June of 2005.

I began gaining weight right after getting married, and it's continued to creep up year after year ever since. I'm a reasonably intelligent person - I know that the reason for this weight gain is because I eat far too much and don't exercise - now it's time to do something about it before I do some real damage to myself... who's with me!!??

thanks for visiting!

It's now been 15 weeks since my awakening with Sparks, and thanks to a suggestion from one of my Spark friends (thanks Kathy!!) I'm updating my page with a more positive statement for the title of my page..... so goodbye Fat but Not Fabulous! As of today, I'm down 40 lbs and to celebrate, I went jean shopping - and for the first time in a long time I'm into a size 18 - YAHOO! Almost at the half-way mark - how exciting!

Well, what do you know... I detoured off the Spark Path for 4 months, and low and behold I regained 20 lbs. Back on track now and trying not to beat myself up to much for my lack of willpower when it comes to ignoring that annoying little voice that talks me into binging on junk.

Need to get honest with myself with what I shove into my gob... haha...

What is wrong with me?? I fell off the spark wagon once again - and regained 20 lbs in 2 months. I really need to determine what drives me to do this. I'll be turning 50 in September and really do NOT want to look and feel the way I do. So, to help me get a handle on my issues I've joined a new Sparks Team (New You Bootcamp) - however I know that simply joining a team is not enough. I MUST gain control and find a way to do what was working for me in with Sparks - which was simply planning out my meals in advance, and getting at least 30 minutes of cardio a day. So, here I go!

UPDATED October 6th, 2009

Well - my 50th birthday has come and gone.. and here I am still not having learned my lesson on weight loss. But - If nothing else, I'm stubborn! so here I am AGAIN. Been at it for a few weeks now and the planning does help me. Love the Fall with all of the cooler nights - perfect for making healthy soups!

UPDATED January 3rd, 2010

I'm stll plugging away at building a healthier me. Good news is that although I had a small stumble in December, it was just a small one, and I'm back on the path to my goal.

My visuals are all updated and posted, and I've made copies for the office so that I don't lose sight of what's important to me while at work.

Here's to a successful 2010!

... and the work at a healthier lifestyle continues! I'm now into a size 18 jean, and one of my male co-workers made a comment yesterday that I was looking good. Geesh! It's not easy though. Stress at work is a BIG trigger for me, and I must get better at recognizing this and take steps to avoid my usual reaction which is food - lots of it, and not the good stuff.

Updated January 1st, 2011

Another year gone - it goes by so fast!
I'm now down 70 lbs - my lowest weight in about 15 years. I've joined a Sparks 28 day Boot Camp team with the goal of consistency for the next 28 days to help reach my next goal of another 8 lbs by March 1st. Woot!

Updated February 12, 2011

I'm in the One-Hundreds!! These last 51 lbs seem SO doable now.... have broken them up into 3 smaller goals of 20 lbs by Aug 1st, another 20 lbs by Jan 1st 2012, and the final 11 lbs by April 1st 2012..... so, just under 1 lb per week. Reasonable I think, so as not to discourage me. YeeHaw!!

Updated - Sept 1, 2011
Well, it's rather annoying that I have fallen off track these past 2 months - not anything drastic, but still - I need to refocus once again. Seems that this will be a life long challenge for me.

THIS time, the loss of my job has created my lack of focus. My company decided to centralize in just one location, and it wasn't the one that I was in. Although I was offered another position, and a relocation package, I declined. So, I'm now unemployed for the first time since I was off with my daughters when they were little.

No clue as to what I'll end up doing - may just look for something part-time in the new year. However, my first goal is to get back into a routine.... ANY routine - and I'm starting with SPARKS!

UPDATED: July 2014

I think I am begining to get the hang of what I shove in my mouth. Finally.

I'm sticking with what the nutritionalist has told me:
Maximum of 30 carbs per meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
Maximum of 20 carbs per snack - max of 3 snacks per day.
Protein with every meal.

This is basically a plan for someone with type 2 diabetes - so in order to avoid this fate, this is how I've been eating for the last year. And I'm having success with it!

I also got myself a Fit Bit Zip through my benefit plan at work. Goal is 10000 steps a day. I've got it loaded on my laptop, now to figure out how to sync it with my phone :)

Down to weighing myself just once a month now. I'm losing about 1 lb per month, so this routine is less stressful for me.

Have updated my goal to be 159 lbs now - will see how I feel at this weight for a few months before deciding if anothe 10 lbs is necessary.

Feel SO much better. I wasn't even really aware of how tired I was. Just figured it's how things were. Foolish for so long.

No more though!
