Ever since I came across this quote by Oscar Wilde however many years ago, it has been my favorite. Trouble is I find that, being overweight for practically my entire life (from at least when I can remember), while I've spent a fairly good portion of it living, there's been a fair amount of merely existing as well.

There have been times when I've made decisions to not do something or to not go somewhere because I didn't feel good about myself and I let my weight hold me back. And frankly, looking back, it's a bunch of bull, really. I mean-what a waste! I'll have no more of that!


Okay. So. This means that I need to get to a weight that allows me to do absofreakinglutely everything I want to do in life. I want to LIVE a full life and travel and experience things and I can only do that to the fullest if I'm healthy.

Case in point-I want to go skydiving. There is a 250lb weight limit. The last time I went on a roller coaster ride, the attendant had to use muscle to push the bar over my thighs. The last time I was on an airplane, I didn't have to use a seat belt extender-but I was pretty much at the end of the belt. These are not things I wish to spend my time and energy worrying about.

I'm finally at a place in my life where I genuinely care more about what I think about myself than what others think when they see me. This is no longer just about vanity. It's about health. And wanting to LIVE my life. Now THAT'S some serious motivation.

My Goals:
My ultimate goals are to be healthy and to feel good about my body.

I'm looking to get down to 175lbs or get down to a size 12, whichever comes first. Since I'm 5'9'' I feel that I'll be healthier at that point, but still have curves-I don't want to be a stick figure (not that that's even remotely possible actually-considering I hail primarily from solid German women and one of my grandmother's names was Bertha for heaven's sake). =)

My Program:
Trying to get rid of my Portion Distortion/Clean Plate membership card and eat "clean"-basically eat plenty of fresh produce, lean protein, complex carbs, and cut out as much sugar as possible, all while remembering that I only need to eat enough to fill one stomach.

I'm also trying to spend one day a week eating vegetarian. Eating more plant-based foods are never a bad thing.

As for exercise, I actually like being active and strive to either go to the gym (Zumba anyone?!) or walk at least 5x/week. I'm aiming to establish a strength training routine 2x/week as well.

And after all that clean-eating for one and fun activity, I'm going to be tracking it all and really paying attention to the numbers and watch what happens.
