Thanks for stopping by! I'm 55 years old and from New England. Recently widowed after 26 years of marriage. I have one child, a son, who is 22 years old. I've been retired since 2008.. I worked 30 years, full time, for the state government doing bookkeeping work for developmentally disabled people and people with mental health issues. I'm no longer working due to health issues.
I didn't have a weight problem all my life. I started gaining weight in my mid-twenties. Before that, I had no clue what it felt like to be the fat chick. Now, I can see clearly from both sides of the fence. Overweight people are the most discriminated group.
They are discriminated in every area of life. It becomes a handicap on so many levels.
I'm here to try the best I can in changing my life for the rest of my life. I'm hoping to help others and make friends on this journey. Lord knows, I need all the help I can get and if I can't find it here; I can't find it anywhere. Different things and approaches work for different people. In the final analysis though, it all comes down to the choices we make and not so much what happens to us on our journey through life, but how we react to what happens along the way. My motto is "Just Do It" Don't think about it, or talk about it; just do it. and the more you go through the motions, the more it will start to stick and become a habit.
I believe my weight problem is mostly due to emotional turmoil. I had a very difficult childhood (or should I say lack of childhood) and teen years and things have gotten so much more complicated since that time. The one place I always knew that I could find comfort and didn't have to look to far or be rejected was with food. I will be strong and won't give up! I don't expect to be perfect and not falter. I know this will happen. But, I will not quit! I will pick myself up, dust myself off, and get right back on track. On this journey I hope to help others find the motivation it'll take to keep the wheels in motion in their life. I'm always ready to listen and help. I look forward to exchanging knowledge and support with new friends. So lets toast (water on the rocks) to friendship and weight loss. Be well, be strong...Jackie

Drinking 8 to 11 glasses of water per day.

Count calories, carbs. proteins and fat. Limit calories and fat. Keep a watch on carbs. Use Moderation in every area of my life. Walk, ride stationary bike, or dance everyday.

My passion is Gardening. I think it's in the blood as my Grandfather also enjoyed gardening. I love to plant perennials and like all kinds of plants and flowers I also love photography, motorcycles, counted cross stitch, cats. sunrises, sunsets, a walk in the woods, listening to birds sing, paranormal, metaphysical phenomana, spirituality. I'm a very spiritual person. I love horror novels such as Stephen King and Dean Koontz. On TV, I like to watch, Lost, (love sexy Sawyer from Lost) Grey's Anatomy, House, Desperate Housewives, Medium and Ghost Whisperer. Favorite actor: Johnny Depp Favorite movies: Anything Jack Nicholoson. My favorite season is autumn and I don't like temps. over 65 or 70 degrees. (I guess Washington State would be perfect for me)

You will receive lots of support and encouragement from everyone. Just post any prayer requests, questions, comments or suggestions you may have and someone will respond quickly.
    You have come to the right place. Take advantage of what Spark has to offer. I want to see you accomplish your goals. Stay focused and keep a positive attitude as this will be a great help to you in your daily life!!! Smile although sometimes that is the hardest, but it really helps!!! And, if nothing else, it makes people wonder what you're up to.
    Remember to just take one day at a time on this journey of a lifetime. This journey consists of many small steps, a few speed bumps and pot holes, and a lot of fun. I will be here for you and try to help you on this journey to your goals. YOU can do this!!!
    Commit yourself to constant self-improvement — the joy is truly in the journey! You are creating a body that is strong and balanced!
    Use your fitness and nutrition tracker daily. Watch your portion control. Be sure to drink plenty of water (8 - 8oz glasses a day) and walk. Water and walking will help you on this journey of weight loss and lowering numbers. Start small if that is all you can do or have time to do and add to it as you are able. Even 5-10 minutes several times a day adds up to bigger numbers and will keep you moving. Invest in a good pedometer (about $10) and see how many steps you currently take each day. Before long you will be adding steps just to see how many you can do and how far you can go. WHAT A GREAT MOTIVATOR!!! YOU can do this!!! I am disabled and this works for me. Take each day one small step at a time — they'll add up over time.
    You can make a choice. Tell that little voice to cease and desist with those negative thoughts. Introduce positive self-talk into your life today! You are creating a body that is strong and balanced! From your own efforts, you will make a difference, and you will feel good about yourself. You are a unique, beautiful, and rare individual — the one and only you!
    It's good to meet and have you with us.
