Would like to lose about 15 lbs, but not trying that hard right now.

My Goals:
I'd ideally like to get down to 125 lbs or less just to have some wiggle room in the healthy weight range. My BMI is 24 right now, which puts me within four or five pounds of being in the Overweight category. With my metabolic issues (high cholesterol, pre-diabetes, borderline BP) I need to keep good control over my weight for health reasons.


My Program:
I have completely given up pasta and rice, and have only an occasional bite of bread or potatoes. No more crackers or chips of any kind. No more pizza crust. I never consumed a lot of sugar to begin with, but now except for special occasions I don't eat sweets at all. The primary goal is to stabilize my blood sugars.

Instead of the carbs, I eat high fat foods - mostly healthy fats such as peanut butter, avocado, olive oil and fatty fish - and lean proteins such as turkey and chicken. I limit fruits to apples and blueberries (no high sugar fruits like bananas or pineapple) and I focus on leafy green or cruciferous veggies rather than the starchy ones.

Some of my choices may seem counter-intuitive - for example I eat non-fat Greek yogurt, but I use heavy cream in my coffee. To me, that is a trade-off because I like non-fat yogurt, and I can save those calories for the cream which is my one daily indulgence. (I might have to give that up, though, to get off these 15 pounds!)
