A few years ago after a very negative experience with my primary care physician, and with the help and support of a Life Coach and SparkPeople friends, I finally got the courage to seek medical advice about some of my physical struggles. I found I have a thyroid condition (hypothyroid) and a "severe" vitamin D deficiency. I am healing in so many ways -- joint aches and soreness diminished, more energy, hair and fingernails stronger...but, I continue to struggle with weight (possibly complicated by a high stress job). I am an ovo-lacto vegetarian, with a milk allergy. I also need to avoid too much soy due to the thyroid med. This makes eating more complicated in some ways, but simpler in others.

I seek patience with myself, but also persistence.

I am ever on this journey!

My Goals:
I want to feel energized, healthy and confident to be of service to other beings in this life (and beyond).

Cardio 30 minutes activity 3-5 days a week.
Weights 2 times a week.
At least 5 fruits/veggies a day
20 minutes meditation more days than not.
At least 6 cups of water per day.
Being more mindful.
Living in the present.
Joy every moment!

My Program:
Vegetarian -- ovo laco (eggs and cheese only). Learning to eat sensibly and mindfully. Using SP planner to give me ideas. Lots of veggies, some tofu. I'm learning a new way to eat mindfully only what I need and when I need it - and with pure joy. Watch me learn how to keep my body healthy!

Daily meditation, gratitutdes, and affirmations to keep me motivated and soothe my spirit.

Live and work in Lincoln, NE. Work as a Professor at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, teaching and researching leadership.

Spiritual practices of meditation and energy work keep me grounded!

Love love love music! Almost anything, but prefer mellow instrumental tunes, meditation music (Tibetan bowls, etc.) or acoustic folk. Some dabbling with guitar and singing but only for my own "entertainment!"

Love to read inspirational stories, personal journeys, healing books! Favorite book: Solar Storms by Linda Hogan.

    Loved your "bang-on" comment on DEBRA's "Culture" blog (my, she is a terrific blogger).

    Just about the same comment I received at a similar point in my life, alhtough mine was from a negative POV ("why would you bother, it's going to take you 5 years" -- to which I replied, "I'm going to be 5 years older anyhow so might as well . . . ". Yeah!! Same attitude actually has helped me plenty with the weight loss/maintenance project actually!
