Let's change our lives together. If you're looking for support or a friend to check in with, I am, too. Friend me!

I started at my all time high. At only 5'1" I weighed 170+ lbs. The weight just kept creeping up on me. I wasn't watching what I was eating, and I honestly believed that if I went running about once or twice a week, I could eat whatever I wanted. This obviously wasn't working!

I got married in May 2011 to my boyfriend of 7 years. Together we moved to Japan. We've had a lot of changes in a very short time. Married, graduated, moved across the world, first professional job. We've had more time to reflect on ourselves and think about what our goals really are. That's when I thought about how I felt in my own body. I wasn't happy.

I'd been a member of Sparkpeople for some time (about two years) but had never really used all of the tools or advice it offered. It was time to get serious about my health and my future. I bought the Spark cookbook (love it!), made an exercise schedule, and have been slowly starting to think more positively about myself, my accomplishments and life. I love how I feel. Although my husband doesn't need to lose any weight (he weighs less than I do!!!), he eats the healthier food and exercises with me. In any journey, you need support from people around you.

Since starting my Sparkpeople journey (for real this time) a short 23 days ago, I have lost 9 lbs. It's just the beginning of my healthy lifestyle. This isn't a diet, or a temporary thing. I'm learning to live a new way of life, happier and healthier, with my husband by my side.

"Jogging is very beneficial. It's good for your legs and your feet. It's also very good for the ground. If makes it feel needed."
Charles M. Schultz

We have recently picked up a passion for running. We started with the C25K program and loved it. I've always wanted to become a runner, so it's a great help when you don't know what you're doing! It's started out really slow with only 60 seconds of running and 90 seconds walking. But by the end you can run for 30 minutes non-stop. I learned not to rush the program so I could really build endurance (no matter how tempted I was). I never thought that I could be a runner. Now we're doing Bridge to 10k. I'm loving this program as well. I look forward to my runs... how weird and fantastic is that?

Next year (by July 2013) I want to run a half marathon... training starts soon. Wish me luck!

Thank you for my clover!! My girlfriend came over the other day and was searching my line for four-leaf clovers. She was so frustrated -- has never found one. Then, on Mother's Day (one week later) another girlfriend found TWO. The first one was soooooooooo jealous!! Haha! emoticon

Was at Dartford park this week-end with the Historical Society, there was a steam rally on. Its a yearly occassion now, it started 4 years ago, and I try to support my friends by attending and helping out. It was nice and sunny, warm in the sun, and freezing in the shade. I came home so cold I had to have a hot bath to warm up again. Had my youngest son visit with his family yesterday, he come to fit my wii console up for me so I can use it for exercise dvd's etc. Now my other grandsons can use it as well. I have managed to keep to my diet and exercise this week, but I did have more alcohol than usual. I have only lost 1lb this week. Still its going in the right direction. Maureen

hiya.. I had some issue with SP I didnot recieve mail for at 5 days and i went to ask team members as SP didnot give a clear answer.. I found via a team member that somehow my e-mail account had been set to recieve no e-mails.. SO today i got a few only but thats ok glad to start getting mail again...
I'm doing OK had an eye problem & have been 3 days in a row to the eye doctor..
So i havent had time to do my exercises also i could not see clearly..
My sugar has been sparking aswell i think the stress of not seeing clearly...
I agree with Maureen about the veteraan, strong determination,.. i also let other things get in the way so exercise comes last or not at all...
    I'm working on it.. haha

Just read your blogs for this week-end, I was moved by the veteran guy. He does put me to shame, sometimes I think I will do some exercise and then I get caught up in something else. He was very focused in his determination to get fit and walk on his own again. One can only admire him for his achievement. Maureen

emoticon for adding me as a spark friend. I have added you also. I look forward to taking this journey with you. Maybe I will get to see some of Japan through your eyes. It may be the only way I will get to see it. I wish you lots of luck on your journey and stay in touch. I am only as far as a spark mail away.
