Hi everyone I'm Rachel. Since about the time I was 21 I've been struggling with my weight. I had no trouble with keeping myself stick-thin through school (probably because I was dancing for several hours each day). During 2003-2004 I went from being around 115 pounds up to 150 pounds. Doesn't sound terrible, I know, but I'm only 5'3" and there aren't a lot of places to hide 35 pounds of extra chub. During that time I really didn't try to be healthy. I never exercised and I didn't really care what I ate. In 2005 I got fed up with being chubby, and I lost 25 pounds. I was really proud of myself. However, I didn't lose the weight in a healthy way--I was mostly starving myself. So, can you guess what happened when I started eating 3 meals a day? That's right! It all came back, with a vengeance! In 2006 I got married and successfully lost 10 pounds before my wedding, but put it back on plus an additional 30 pounds relatively quickly. My highest weight was 197.7 pounds, and that was the last straw!

I have found that what works best for me is baby steps. Just inching my way back down is working for me. I keep telling myself not to expect the weight to fall off, after all, I didn't get to be this big overnight. I'm making small lifestyle changes where I can, and I'm slowly transforming my habits so it isn't too much to handle all at once.

My Program:
I'm eating lots of fruits, veggies, whole grains, nuts, and seeds this time around.
I'm trying to get in the habit of going for a walk a few times a week in addition to using my elliptical or doing Zumba. I'm cutting out as much processed sugar as possible, and trying to only have desserts at the end of the week as a reward for my hard work during the week.
