My purpose here on Spark is to take care of me. Since 2009, I've lost 30+ pounds & I'm in better shape than I was 5 years ago. Getting into better shape has meant making some lifestyle changes for me. Just before joining Spark People, I quit smoking. Since joining Spark, I've learned a lot about nutrition and made changes in my diet and exercise habits that have resulted in lower blood pressure, more energy, increased flexibility and stamina, lower body fat percentage, weight loss, and feeling better overall. Plus, I feel good about the way I look, even when I put a few pounds back on.

I'm primarily on Spark to track my nutrition & exercise, keep myself honest about things like serving sizes & doing exercises correctly, & to track my progress. Spark has a lot to offer, in terms of tools, information & support. I am not in this for the points, so I may not be highly involved in the more social aspect of the site.

A little more about me: I love animals, my house is home to 4 cats, a dog, several aquariums, and my family. I'm a voracious reader and I love music. I'm also a sun-worshipper, I love working in my garden and can often be found hanging out in my yard with the barbecue going. My favorite indulgences are sleeping in until noon, or kicking back in my yard with a few beers, & a good book & some tunes. Oh, & long hot relaxing showers with coconut scented shimmering shower gel. ;-D

    Thanks for the Spark goodie, wasn't sure if u came on here that often, looking at dates. I come on here everyday for my spin, and planner entry. I am doing good. I think I will be off FB for sometime. I need the time away for multiple reasons, not just for the one. I may come back at the end of the year. I miss our conversations too, when we talk about our gardening and hobbies.

    We belong to two groups - one is a living history group - the pic of me in the house is from at an event at a local quasi-historic site. That group hosts School of the Musketeer in Phila, Pa ( and at the Citie of Henricus in Virginia.

    The pic of me in the hat is at a hafla hosted by the Society for Creative Anacronism ( - they run the gamut from "I'm here for the party" to serious history buffs - and even if you live in far far away there's probably a group near you!

    Both groups participate in local Renaissance Faires, and also provide public demos, and have private (members and guests) events.
