Tracking my weight loss progress, focusing on health and minimizing PCOS symptoms.

I'm at goal! I now weight just over 130lbs, over 60 pounds down! That's nearly one third of my starting body weight!

I started eating low-glycemic just after Christmas 2010 after months of mysterious health issues peaked in a frightening hospital visit on Christmas morning.

The new approach to eating worked like a charm and I felt much better immediately. I also lost 1-2 pounds per week from December to May! The loss slowed down in June and July as I approached healthy weight, and progressed at a glacial but steady pace since I hit healthy weight in August 2011.

My body has gotten into some healthy rhythms thanks to weight loss and medication and I'm feeling very hopeful. I have a great new doctor who is helping to connect me with specialists to see if they can get my blood pressure, anxiety, fertility and hair issues under control. Thanks everyone for your support and encouragement!

I also want to note that my wife has lost 40 pounds as well, without counting any calories or cutting out any food completely. She just made some of the same adjustments I did - avoiding most sugars and white carbs, while eating more veggies and fruit and including protein at every meal. We eat smaller meals and plan nutritious snacks in between. She's gone from the 160s to the 120s and, like me, is now the smallest she's ever been since her early teens. Between us we've around 110 lbs! Crazy!

My Goals:
-Get to 145 ("healthy BMI" for my height of 5'4")
by August 2011 - DONE August 2 2011!!!!

From there, work slowly towards 135 and see how I feel. - DONE December 25 2011!!!

Long term goal:

28-day lunar cycle without hormone pills.

Maintain healthy goal weight without Metformin.

Get my blood pressure down without meds.

My Program:
Because I have PCOS/Insulin resistance, I'm eating a low-GI vegetarian diet of whole grains (in moderation), fruit, vegetables, legumes, nuts & seeds, low-fat dairy & eggs, and soy products.
Averaging around 1400-1500 calories per day.
Commuting by bike 40-45 minutes total a day and doing 10 minute mini-strength training sessions at lunch.
Aiming to lose 1-2 pounds per week and am on track so far!

Personal Information:
Married Canadian, 32 years old, no kids. Have been overweight for most of my post-pubescent life, and was "obese" (a term I hate!) between 2004 and 2011. Finally diagnosed with PCOS after a rough summer & fall (healthwise) in 2010. Got a low-GI guidebook at Christmas 2010 and started eating that way immediately. I'm happy because I CAN'T HANDLE being hungry and I never have to feel that way anymore if I avoid sugar and processed starches and eat healthy, frequent portions.
