My name is Elyse. I am 25 years old and very recently married. My husband and my cats are the most precious things in my life, but a close runner-up is my love for literature. I have my BA in English and Chinese/Japanese studies, and am currently applying for grad schools to get my MA in English.

Because I am NOT one of the lucky ones who can eat an entire large pizza every night and not gain a pound, my weight has yo-yo'd crazily since I was 18. My highest weight in college was 185 pounds, at which point I felt horrible. I got migraines several times a week and had pre-hypertension, something that is definitely dangerous for someone my age.

A couple of years ago I started to really take control of my health and fitness, and I have gotten my weight down to the mid 140s range, where I feel so much better. My blood pressure is now below normal, and I only get migraines once per month if at all.

Right now, it's all about getting toned and hitting fitness milestones. I want to run faster and farther, be able to do more than ten push-ups at a time, and to be able to do more pull-ups than I can right now (which is zero). I want to whip myself into great shape, and enjoy all of the benefits that come along with it.

Lower chance for disease. Strength to carry all of the groceries upstairs at once. Stamina to take long hiking trips. A body that I'm proud to take to the beach. The end of migraines. The bragging rights associated with completing a half-marathon, marathon, triathlon, etc. Healthy grey matter that will more readily absorb new information and will be less likely to fail me later. A kickass immune system. And, of course, the knowledge that if I ever end up dangling from the edge of a high cliff or building, I am much less likely to die because, dammit, I can pull myself up!

These benefits and more await me. I just need to bust my butt and seize them!

My Goals:
My goal is to weigh in the 130s, but I've always believed that weight is just a number and it is how you feel that matters. Ideally, I would like to feel comfortable in my clothes and proud of my body. I want the very few health problems I have to be taken care of now, while I am still very young. I have slightly high blood pressure, am on medication for my migraines, and have been battling with depression for the last few years. I know that all of these problems can at least be helped, if not cured, by a much healthier lifestyle.

So, if it is the 130s that gets me there, great! If it is the 140s, that is great, too!

UPDATE: 140s achieved, still have work to do! Bring it :)

My Program:
Now that it is nice outside (finally!) I've been getting a lot of exercise by hiking. I also do lots of strength training at home, and I have recently started taking yoga more seriously. What I really need to work on, however, is incorporating more good old-fashioned cardio.

Should go without saying, but I eat a healthy diet. As a rule, I try to keep my food as colorful and as natural as possible. Whole grains for everything, only healthy fats, lots of fruits and veggies. I pretty much never consume beverages with calories, it's always water or iced green tea. I eat anywhere from 1200-1700 calories a day depending on that day's needs.
