41st Week SparkPeople (9 Months)
Today is Friday January 1st 2010 (HAPPY NEW YEAR)
Last Weigh in on Sunday December 13, 2009 at 275lbs

Hello SparkPeople,

I would like to start by wishing Everyone a Happy, Exciting, Motivating, New Year and welcome Sparkers new and old to help me Spread the Spark in 2010.

The South Bay / Beach Cities Team workouts on Wednesdays and Saturdays have been a big boon to my weight loss Lead by PAULAB_CPT and Co-leaders LIZZIECA55 and myself. I would like to give many thanks to this Team and all its members for keeping me motivated. I thank my Doctor for placing me on The Path of this Life Style Change. I Thank the Founder of SparkPeople Inc. Chris Downie and Company for creating this Web Site which has been an inspiration to so many people. I like to Thank my wife whose encouragement meant everything. It is because of the above mentioned I have lost 60lbs. and I am looking forward to completing my weight loss in 2010.

It has been a rough and exciting 6 months, I do apologize for not posting my results sooner. I do not always have the words in me to express how I feel. A lot has happened and I did manage to post a few Blogs. Somewhere I steered off the main path but continued toward my goals. I have not consistently logged my food intake though I was mindful of the food I was eating splurging now and again. For a while I hit a plateau and was discouraged. I tried to increase my exercise and found myself often with injury. I did my very best to get back on track and keep others around me motivated always recruiting. Slowly the weight came off, loosing 19.5lbs since June 21st 2009.

During the last 6months...
I have ran a race "Conquer the Bridge 2009", a 8k 5mile run over the Vincent St. Thomas Bridge in San Pedro CA. A total of 1,489 participants, this was my first race and I finished in 914th place at 1hr 5min 13sec with a pace of 13.03min a mile.

I went to Chicago with my wife, whom had a business meeting there. I took the two days and walked with Camera and Tripod through Chicago's Magnificent Mile area taking in a total of 11 miles.

I walked the Harry Sutter Memorial 3-Mile Fun Run, 30th Annual Turkey Trot in the City of Torrance CA with my Team Leader and Spark friends.

My workouts have been invigorating, I managed to go from 3miles run/walks to 4mile runs twice a week and Cycling on my Stationary Bike doing 30min 7miles each session.

This last month I attempted to increase my speed and run to 3 times a week, however I ended up with a pulled muscle. I fear during the last 3 weeks off from exercise and the holidays I strayed and gained some weight. This last week I felt better and began to walk my routine and ride my stationary bike. I am feeling a little sore but delighted to be back to exercise.

My Plan for 2010...
Today I pick up the book "The Spark" at Barnes & Noble. Read Article to receive a printable 30% off coupon on or before January 15th 2010.

To continue to lose 1-2lbs each week, more Strength Training, mindful eating habits eating 6 small meals a day to keep my metabolism high. To support others which will in turn keep my motivation high and focused.
I will weigh in on Sunday January 10th after I workout and purge my bad habits from the holidays.
I would like to attend the Lake Irvine Mud Run, to do some Kayak and Scuba Diving this Spring/Summer.

6th Week SparkPeople
Today is Sunday April 26th, 2009
Weigh in 318
Last year my medical plan was an HMO. I did not like the doctor I was seeing, I continued only to see him because the office was next door to my work. Enrollment was in December to make any changes to my Health Plan. I decided to switch to a PPO. I had belong to another medical plan in the past which allowed me to see a doctors group I liked, however the Company switch plans and the group moved. After switching to a PPO I manage to return to this group.

So down to the facts, as I may have told you I have High Blood Pressure and High Cholesterol. I found myself at 335lbs. I told my new doctor I have had a hard time loosing the weight. I do belong to a gym but don't go. Well she went to work straight away. As you know I'm approaching 40yrs old and I do not want to be unhealthy.

I told her all my problems, obese, eating habits, stress, blood pressure, cholesterol, not sleeping, sleep apnea. She ran some test and blood work, recommended me to a few Specialists and a Cardiovascular Program. So I got my Blood work done scheduled with these Specialists and decided to try this Program.

I thought I should start by eating healthy foods to prepare me for this Cardiovascular Program. I had two weeks before the program began. The times were on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and is for 12 weeks. I spoke to my boss, whom allowed me to work from 5:00am to 1:00pm on those days.

(Cardiovascular Health Achieved Through Nutrition, Guidance & Exercise) by Torrance Memorial - Lundquist Cardiovascular Institute
On day one of C.H.A.N.G.E., I was taken aback by the number of older people and wondered if this program was for me.
I was assured that It would be scaled to each person's needs. The program consist of a nutritionist, a physiologist, a psychologist, and two physical trainers.

I was three weeks into the program and was to return to my doctor for a follow-up visit. She was very pleased I had drop 5lbs weighing in at 330lbs. She was pleasantly surprised when I told her I took her recommendation and joined this program, telling me nobody ever takes her advice. She did some more tests including a physical, and has asked me for more blood work and to return to her at the end of May. She then gave me a web site to visit called Sparkpeople.com to help in my nutrition.

So I again did what she asked and became a member of Sparkpeople.com. This website is a network of people around the world looking to better their health. There is a nutrition guide, a fitness tracker, blogging for support, recipes and you build a personal web page. In addition to this there are several groups to belong to, I have about four right now. One of them is a group in my city of Torrance. They get together an exercise. This has been an unbelievable journey.

I am now into my 8th week at the C.H.A.N.G.E., which I have been attending Mondays and Wednesdays we have 30-60 minutes of physiological guidance followed by 30-45 minutes of Cardio (Treadmill, Recumbent Bike, Spin Bike) and 30-45 minutes of Strength Training (Dumbbells, Yoga Ball, Stretch Cords, Isolating Body Movement).

At the same time I am in my 6th week on Sparkpeople.com, which I have been doing Circuit Training on Saturdays with my Torrance group.

I now exercise Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, I have been Tracking my nutrition, this means everything I eat. This Tracker tells me how much good and bad I eat. It gives me everything you would find on a food package, Serving size, Calories, Total Fat, Sodium, Potassium, Carbohydrates, Vitamins, Iron, calcium, etc... I am learning to eat right. I try each day to have a high fiber/ high protein breakfast (I never would eat breakfast) and protein at each meal. Trying to eat every 2-3 hours. With exercise my metabolism should be in high gear.

I now weigh in at 318lbs from 335lbs that's 17lbs gone in two months, and my doctor doesn't even know yet. I've lost 12lbs since I have seen her and it will be another 4 weeks before I do.

I am SOOOO HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Weigh in 330lbs

Good Day,
I really don't know what to say, I like a good conversation but not much at starting one. I guess I can start by saying I joined Spark People because my new Doctor told me about it. I have switched to a PPO, and it has opened doors for me.
I have been putting on the weight and have tried diets, like many of others have done. But the weight always doubled back after the loss.
My doctor also recommended a class designed by other doctors. It is a 12wk program which includes psychology, nutritionist, physiologist, physical trainer. I took this opportunity and ran with it.
So here I am. I hope to find this site an eye opener, full of opportunity and possibilities.
