March 2010: Yes, I'm still here even though I haven't updated in months. Some months back I had decided to train for a half marathon, but then I got signed up for the Escape from Alcatraz. I am so excited to do this triathlon. . .but frankly, this one SCARES me and I'm not sure I'll actually be ready by May 2. . . but until I decide, I'll keep training. July09 update: Despite less than optimal training, I have completed my two Olympic distance triathlons. Hummm . . . what do I do next? May 09 update: Since October 08, time available for training decreased precipitously and, if it's a choice between training and visiting this site, training wins hands down. Thus I am almost never here. I've gained a few pounds - skirts are tighter, pants are tighter - with my decreased time for physical activity. Despite this, I am signed up for two Olympic distance triathlons this year. I am both worried and excited about the longer distance. One good point for training is that my work is a pleasant 10.5 mile bike ride (now that the weather is improving), mainly along a cycling path. So I'll try to fit that in as much as possible. I could make a brick out of the commute and tack a 30 minute run at the end of the ride to work. Start: I'm fifty plus. I started on South Beach in June 07 and plan to follow this healthy way of eating (lots of veggies) for the rest of my life. In July 07, I decided I wanted to complete a triathlon by spring or summer 08 and have now registered for three sprint distance triathlons for this summer. [THREE DOWN AND REGISTERED FOR A FOURTH!] In the meantime, I have learned to swim winter 07-08 and really love swimming laps. But I am seriously slow and do sometimes get frustrated that improvement is so slow. In running, I have completed 5k, 4 mi, and 5 mi races. Again, I am seriously slow, but there is improvement. The big problem with running is that, while I enjoy races, I do not like training. For me, biking is more fun than running and I am finally getting a few miles on the bike. I don't know that my speed is improving, but I do know that rides that tired me last year are now quite easy.
