Moving along toward better health...

It's OK, no, it's good to love your body at any size. I certainly do! But like any relationship, that requires that you pay attention to it. When it says it doesn't like what you're doing, you have to consider changing in order to keep the relationship solid. If I want a good relationship with my body, I need to show it some really positive attention.

I was another one of those fat girls nobody liked. When I was sixteen, someone pointed out a heftier girl to me and said "She has boyfriends and friends. Why? Because she acts like she's beautiful." Those words gave me the esteem to get through high school and college, and I fell absolutely in love with my body during my first pregnancy and 15 months of nursing. What a miracle, that my body could bear and feed another person!

It was shortly before my Dad passed of complications of diabetes and heart disease that I realized I had to make changes. Thankfully, I am not diabetic and my blood pressure is low. Perhaps my body is more forgiving than his; perhaps my not smoking or drinking has allowed me to go longer without the consequences of my size. But I tore my meniscus and my knees are starting to show the strain of almost two decades of 240+ pounds.

Even 100 years ago, a body like mine would have ensured that I and my children survived famine. In this world, the one in which we now live, those very genetic adaptations coupled with a sedentary life (one my ancestors would have called the height of luxury) have brought about more issues than good.

I love my body. It's a miracle. It's not its fault that it's designed for other conditions than those in which I live. But that doesn't let me off the hook for taking care of it.

That's why I'm here.

My bootcamp goals:
To work out five days a week
To eat on-plan, despite the multiple family events happening this month
To fit perfectly into the new lingerie I just bought
To completely avoid french fries and other fried foods

Just added a pic of me at Christmas 2008, which was just a few days after starting SP. :)
