I am 49 and it's taken many, many years...but I'm finally in the zone where I understand the importance of eating healthy and being fit. I eat so that my body is nutritionally sound and gives me energy and strength to maintain my fitness level. I no longer crave foods like chips and cookies which were my previous'go-to' foods for every emotion. Now I seek out foods that nourish my body --- focusing on foods provided from the earth! I wish I learned all this earlier in life but am happy to have finally awakened. Have lost 45 lbs and kept it off for a 12 months now. I keep my 'big' pictures on-hand as a constant reminder. I eat ' 2000-cal a day and burn 700-calories+ for daily consumption range of 1300 to 1500 per day. I journal and track daily with Spark. I LOVE SPARK and attribute my ability to maintain my focus to Spark. I am definitely SPARK HAPPY!

My Goals:
My life goal is to be connected -- spiritually, with my husband and friends -- and to live a healthy, happy life as long as God allows.

My Program:
Eat healthful foods with emphasis on protein and lots, lots, lots of vegetables. I've learned to crave vegies as snack-of-choice (Baby Bells, Baby Cukes, Baby Carrots). I avoid white foods like bread, potatoes or processed starches. If I fall off the wagon, it's with my home-made Chex Mix (content controlled by me). I eat 2000 calories a day and work half of it off with daily cardio and strength toning. I do NOT cut back in calories - especially if they are healthful. I learned how to eat well and found you are, indeed, what you eat!

Live in Phoenix, Arizona; Married for 20 years; No children; have a cat named Shelby; Daily exercise comprised of running, hiking and strength toning; Enjoy vacations with Husband and our boat which we keep at Lake Mead.

    Great . I am also looking to shed 50 lbs at least and I notice I am in same age group too . It is tough working for it once you are in mid 40s but I guess I will do it this time no other choice :)) emoticon

    Hi. I am in Waco, not Phoenix but I know there is a walking club in your area if you are interested in participating in local events on a regular basis. I do similar walks every weekend. We are not "fund raising" clubs, we are for fun, fitness and fellowship. Our clubs are family oriented and most events are baby stroller, and pet friendly. Our object is to keep a record book and collect a stamp for each event that we do. I've done over a 1000 of the 10K events in Texas and in 46 other states.     Congrats at your maintenance success!! Check you out!! And, you're doing it in a state where many of my friends (not on SparkPeople) say that it's impossible to lose weight because all of the restaurants serve food that isn't healthy.
