Welcome to my little corner of the SparkPeople web. I'm trying, yet again, to get myself healthy. As I'm sure most of us have, I've made myself promises, beat myself up & all manner of things over the last 10+ years trying to motivate myself. At one point, I had lost most of the weight I needed to, then for a variety of reasons (& 'handy' excuses!) I managed to put it all back on - & then some!

Anyway, excuses aside & hopefully self-sabotaging aside as well, I am committed to making this stick this time. I've learned that a total lifestyle change is the only way - then there are no 'bad habits' left to go back to. Sounds simple, right? LOL

I am a wife, mother of 2 & my profession was as a baker & cake decorator. For now, I am concentrating on me & getting healthy & overcoming some health issues that caused some emotional issues. No excuses here, just honest to God trying to make changes. First, for myself. Second, for my family. And finally, getting healthy in memory of my father who died all too early at the age of 59. 14 years ago, when he died, I swore to get myself healthy (more than once!) & battle my family history of illnesses, health issues & early deaths. I did it, for about a year, then I let myself wallow in my own frightening issues, like the Mast Cell Disorder, Melanoma & going through the Fructose Intolerance symptoms before they correctly diagnosed what was wrong. I've also had a second scare w/ cancer, Uterine Cancer. Thankfully after the surgery & hysterectomy there was no need for further intervention & I thank God for that!

Turns out I hadn't really LEARNED anything about the right changes & the best way to implement them. I think I have now. And I've learned a little something about motivation & how to use it.

I was motivated by things that have happened in my life, like my Dad's death or a time when I took my kids to the amusement park & couldn't go on a ride because I was too fat. An entire ride full of people watched me walk away in tears while my husband & kids went on that flying swings ride. Oddly enough though, I wasn't motivated FOR ME. I knew I needed to change things, & I wanted to, but there's a difference between wanting to, needing to & believing you HAVE to - that there are no choices to make anymore. It's something that simply MUST be done.

Now, *I* want to, need to & must be around for my kids - & be active w/ them, *I* want to, need to & must be healthy & know that my Dad would be proud of me, *I* want to, need to & must change things, for me AND my family, *I* want to, need to & must be a good example for my kids: "Hey, look at me, I don't just harp on you kids about how to eat, what to eat, when to eat & being active. I *AM* what I'm telling you, & look at the positive changes I made. And look how much happier & healthier we ALL are for it."

I want my kids to see that they can do ANYTHING they set their minds to, & I want them to know that I am doing every little thing I can to make sure that I am on this earth for as long as I can be & as long as the Good Lord plans for me.

There are enough things stacked in my family tree, including the penchant for being obese, that I do not need to be unhealthy & looking for trouble. I'd rather not rifle through the leaves playing hide & seek w/ them.

I know that I need to take care of what I have control over. I'm only sad that I wasted so long in getting to this point. But, something I've learned from my family - right down the line from my Mom, my Dad & my sister - is to put one foot in front of the other & always keep your head up.

I'm not in denial, I know more setbacks will come, faltering & getting tripped up are out there around any corner. But trudging right on through all of them is the only way to get where I'm going. And I know I'm not headed that way alone...that's why I came to SP...we're all going there together, no matter where we are. And if my page can speak to just one person, motivate just one person, then it just makes it so much the better! Good luck to us all, sorry for writing a book LOL, & thanks for stopping by! :)

My Goals:
To be the best ME that I can be! Corny though it may be, it's exactly what I want: to be the very best person, wife, mother, sister, daughter, friend...I can be. And to be healthy while doing it. That's not so much to ask, right? That's my goal(s), in a nutshell!

My Program:

Personal Information:
In the last several years:

I've been through Melanoma Skin Cancer, suffering from a Mast Cell Disorder, chronic hives & Fructose Intolerance. Last year in 2013 I had the beginnings of uterine cancer & so underwent an ablation & a hysterectomy. A couple months after that, I had a 3 day stay in the hospital w/ pneumonia. Most definitely time to get back on this road to wellness! Some things I can't control...but this weight thing, yeah, THIS I *can* start to control.

NO more excuses!

Live *each* day - NO REGRETS!!!

They say 'you can't win, until you're not afraid to lose' - so, let's go! ;)

Other Information:
I love James Patterson books, especially the Women's Murder Club series.

I love to do counted cross stitch, play on Pogo, cook, bake & be creative while decorating cakes. I'm an artistic type & sometimes enjoy drawing & sketching.
