It can be hard to get out of a funk, but it can be done. Kick that mood goodbye, you can do it!

I had a good visit with Dad. My stepsister has been going nearly every day for the 10 weeks I've been healing and I'm sure she enjoyed her day at home too.

I can't help Dad do much because my activities are still limited but I took him some chili for his supper, I helped him make some phone calls and we went out for lunch. After lunch he wanted to go to the grocery store so we did that. Then I left for home. I tolerated the drive quite well and might try to go again on Thursday. I'm afraid to be out in inclement weather and it is supposed to be nice again by then.

I just recently did a clean out of the coop. Lots of feathers because of the molt, but I think they're pretty much finished with that. However there is an ongoing change in the population. My oldest hen up and died unexpectedly. Also the three younguns I've been raising have all proven to be roos.

Luckily we found a lady who took two of them. Shes rebuilding her flock after a cougar pair decimated hers. The cougars have also killed goats, llamas and a horse in the area, probably cats and dogs too. But she says that fish and game have already shot the male cat who was in the process of killing a goat. She said that they can't really relocated them because they usually will find their way back. So they will be after it until they get the female too. Pretty scary, she says that she has on game cams that the cat was about 50 feet from her back door.

But the sad fact is we can't keep even the last roo because of city rules and I'm grateful that she agreed to take the last one too. My husband was the one home when she came because I would have had her take them all then. Of course I wasn't expecting her to take more than one so I'm grateful. I know it's risky to send them to an environment with cougars and coyotes but I would have a very hard if not impossible time trying to get rid of them otherwise and would be forced to cull them, something I don't want to do. At least they have a chance.

Tomorrow I'm going to pick up some young pullets from another local farm as I would be left with only one hen otherwise. No more taking a chance on straight run chicks adorable as they are. I got lucky this time to find them a home.
