Hi, I am Claudia and thanks for stopping by!

I joined Spark a few years ago, but finally got active for a good year and a half and in December 2009 I was at my lowest weight 160.5. In 2010 I started running races 5K, 10K and half marathons. During race training I was unsuccessful at balancing food and workouts and gained some weight back, also life got in the way and a move across the country and when I stopped making me a priority I gained some more.

Fast forward to July 2012 and here I am, recommitting and reclaiming my healthy and active lifestyle, one day at the time.

    The mango pudding is delightful, I hope you enjoy! Mango is one of my favs. Today I'm going to have cottage cheese with lemon curd mix in and mango, YES! If you ever sign up on Tumblr to share, please let me know what your account name is. I'm not going to lie, it's a bit of work to post regularly, but it's possible to queue posts and just enjoy what healthy living inspiration is floating around on any searchable tag.

    I've been quite busy myself, don't sweat replying promptly. I should working right now actually, but after days straight of work I need a brief break, despite the looming deadline.

    I find the calorie counts are most effective when I can trust the source with the measurements. I measure by the gram and ounce, so when I need a cup of diced apples, I know I need 165 grams. That means the calorie counts have to match to 165 grams of apples for me. A lot of sources do not follow such a protocol (which is why I can't use SparkRecipes, particularly the user submitted ones), but I know I can always trust the counts for Cooking Light and Eating Well. That is probably the ultimate form of control, LOL! Even with such wonderfully low calorie recipes, by measuring and limiting fats I can usually cut anywhere from 50 to 200 calories per serving. I always give myself a big pat on the back when I do that.

    I'm loving these conversations with you, Claudia. I'm so passionate about all aspects of healthy living, it's shear joy to be able to share it with others.

    I'm glad you picked up the subscription too. You'll have to tell me what you think. I just love to have magazines set in front of me that I can peruse. There's a different feeling than just viewing the recipes on the sites.

    I'm learning so much by making new recipes all the time and posting them to Tumblr. I'm just happy to be able to share this love for food and show how good it can turn out as long as you're willing to try.

    To find the best cookbooks, I've found it's best to check them out from the library first and browse them to see if they have anything I want. I find the recipes on the sites and save them to a digital notebook, and for the books I really love I purchase them. My favorites are Cooking Light Way to Cook, Way to Cook Vegetarian, Way to Bake, CL Comfort Foods, The Simple Art of EatingWell, and two out of print books from the editors of Health Magazine: Easy, Delicious Diabetic Recipes: A Cookbook for a Healthy Life and Healthy Heart Cookbook: Easy, Delicious Recipes for Preventing and
    Managing Heart Disease. I bought them used at a thrift store and off of Amazon for cheap. I also HIGHLY recommend The Daily Soup Cookbook. There are a lack of pictures and nutrition, but EVERY recipe has turned out beyond incredible, plus very healthy in calorie amounts.

    I also greatly recommend mini measuring spoons, they are crucial for cutting down recipes in serving amounts. I love your contribution to the list for shoes. They is definitely a must! I purchased specific shoes myself for biking that don't have laces.

    Claudia! Hi!! So great to hear from you!! I'm doing well...it's just been a year of change so far! I started working FT again and its been a mixed blessing. Hard to stay motivated to keep eating right/running but I'm trying. Having races helps but I really need to do better! You've been running for 230days straight?! You are AMAZING!! What an inspiration! Well, like you, I'll have to start tracking to loose my extra wt gain too - mostly from being sidelined earlier in the yr due to a back sprain. I'm much better now but now it's just fighting time, energy & talking myself out of runs/workouts that I have to deal with! HA! We can do it though, right chica?! You bet!! Let's make this our best year yet!! emoticon
