Update 11/07/11: I'm embarrassed to say I've done a lot sitting around and hoping...hoping that all my horrid eating wouldn't catch up with me, hoping by not running I really could just pick up where I left off, hoping I would wake up and to find out it was all a bad dream. As of today, I have managed to put back on 36 pounds. Last week, I had to go buy bigger pants because I had nothing to wear to work...that was my breaking point. I sat in the dressing room and cried. Currently, I weigh 166 pounds which up up from 130 pounds in February. Today, I start again. I stop the excuses and start getting back on track to a healthy me.

(2009) For years and years and years, I sat around hoping to lose weight and get in shape. In my pre-kids life, I was a normal weight and pretty fit so I thought if I hoped hard enough, I'd get there again. As the years flew by, I kept getting heavier and heavier and more out of shape. Hoping wasn't getting me anywhere. Christmas 2008, I asked for a scale for Christmas. I hit my "OMG I can't believe I am that heavy moment" when I stepped on the scale and found out I weighed 178 pounds....more than I did when I was 9 months pregnant with my third child. It was there and then I decided to stop hoping and start making changes.
In searching for for information on the best way to lose weight and get in shape, I found sparkpeople. Spark really helped me make a connection with other people struggling with their weight and get valuable health information. I started exercising (I lost my first 20 pounds with Jillian's 30 day shred). I made a complete change in the way I eat and also the way my family eats. I kicked my biggest vice, 6-7 cans of diet coke per day and I have officially been soda free for over a year.
In August of 2009, I decided I wanted to run again. After a 10 year abscense from running, I could not even make it one mile. Since then, I've kept at it and have gone from 13 minute miles to completing a half marathon on May 16, 2010 in 2:12. I'm excited to keep running and training to complete many more half marathons and maybe even one day a full marathon.
At 40, I am more happy and healthy than I have been in a very long time. I'm no longer sitting around hoping, I'm for a more healthy life.....not only for me, but more importantly to set a great example to my three children.
