Hi, Friends,

I've strayed far from my path. I don't know exactly what happened, but I stopped going to the gym, stopped eating well, started gaining back pretty much all I had lost. Actually, even a bit more. Not my highest ever, but my highest since 2001. I am now 267, 3 pounds heavier than when I started with Spark in June 2007.

However, I believe I have found what I need to get me back on track. Despite my current weight, I have signed up for the Kaiser Half Marathon taking place on Super Bowl Sunday, February 7, 2010. I will start training with a team on Saturday, November 14th, training once a week with the team, and 2 or 3 days a week on my own. (Most likely two, as I know the body needs rest, but I have to see how my first training goes and find out what the trainer says.)

With this new challenge in mind, I will be checking in much more often, keeping track of food and exercise. I don't know how muc I will post outside of that, but I will definitely be around.

Take good care.

My name is Chloe.

I've been overweight my whole life, and even though I was very close (172) to my goal (160) in 1990, I've never hit my goal. I feel that it is time.

Along with wanting to be healthy, I want pursue my dream of becoming a police officer, and I would LOVE to buy off the rack.

Some things I've found on various SparkPages and Spark Threads...

Nike Ads quoted on a thread by Kelli, leader of the Quickfire Challenge team...

"The best inspiration is not to outdo others, but to outdo ourselves."

"If you went running when you first started thinking about it, you'd be back by now."

"Others aren't staring at you. They're thinking how they should be running, too."

"Someone who is busier than you is running right now."

"The road to hell is paved with couches."

"It's easier to sleep than run. That's why sleeping isn't an olympic sport."

"All your life you are told the things you cannot do. All your life they will say you're not good enough or strong enough or talented enough; they will say you're the wrong height or the wrong weight or the wrong type to play this or be this or achieve this. THEY WILL TELL YOU NO, a thousand times no, until all the no's become meaningless. All your life they will tell you no, quite firmly and very quickly. AND YOU WILL TELL THEM YES."

"If you always do what you've always done, then you'll always get what you've always got."
~Zig Zigler

"If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude."
~Maya Angelou
"The triumph can’t be had without the struggle. And I know what struggle is.” ~ Wilma Rudolph, Athlete
From Vibranthing1's page...

The Ten Commandments of Permanent Fat Removal

1. Thou shalt honor and believe in thyself.
2. Thou shalt move thy booty. Move it and move it some more.
3. Thou shalt never go hungry again. Eat small meals and healthy snacks throughout the day.
4. Thou shalt stock the fridge with the right stuff - the fruits and vegetables of the earth, the melba toast of men who walked before us.
5. Thou shalt honestly write it down. If you bite it, you must write it.
6. Thou shalt weigh and measure thy food.
7. Thou shalt drink enough Holy Water to frighten Noah and map out all the restrooms in thy village.
8. Thou shalt not deny thyself a treat or two now and then.
9. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's plate.
10. Thou shalt not eat out of misery, boredom, anxiety ... but should thy over-indulge, forgive thyself immediately.

All Is Forgiven, Move On!

"Later that day I got to thinking about relationships. There are those that open you up to something new and exotic, those that are old and familiar, those that bring up lots of questions, those that bring you somewhere unexpected, those that bring you somewhere far from where you started, and those that bring you back. But the most challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you can find someone to love the you you love, well, that's just fabulous".

-Carrie Bradshaw (Sex and the City)
I read something on one of the Done team's threads, and I decided I had to include it here so I could read it whenever I wanted, posted by Gwenforreal on Wed, 7/30, 1:06 pm PST:

"...if you needed kidney dialysis you'd find the time for it or die. If you had cancer you'd make the time for chemo and radiation or die. A virtual gun is to your head in those two scenarios and you respond accordingly, making the other items in your life's agenda secondary. Until you assign optimum physical conditioning a similar level of urgency you'll make convenient excuses as to why you can't (or won't) find or make the time for it. Convince yourself you will literally die unless you do it. Who knows, it may very well be true." ~Steve Duncan
Found this on Jenncrrt's page:

When you've eaten too much and you can't write it down,
And you feel like the biggest failure in town.
When you want to give up just because you gave in,
and forget all about being healthy and thin.
So What! You went over your points a bit,
It's your next move that counts...So don't you quit!
It's a moment of truth, it's an attitude change.
It's learning the skills to get back in your range.
It's telling yourself, "You've done great up till now.
You can take on this challenge and beat it somehow."
It's part of your journey toward reaching your goal.
You're still gonna make it, just stay in control.
To stumble and fall is not a disgrace,
If you summon the will to get back in the race.
But, often the struggler's, when loosing their grip,
Just throw in the towel and continue to slip.
And learn too late when the damage is done,
that the race wasn't over...they still could have won.
Lifestyle change can be awkward and slow,
but facing each challenge will help you grow.
Success is failure turned inside out,
the silver tint in a cloud of doubt.
When you're pushing to the brink, just refuse to submit,
If you bite it, you write it....But don't you quit!

A little tidbit from another post...

One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us.

My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really very friendly. So I asked, 'Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!' This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, 'The Law of the Garbage Truck.'

He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you.

Don't take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets. The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so...

Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't.

Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it!
From Tx.Patricia's SparkPage...

"Every day is a life, being born in daybreak and dying when you go to sleep. Live every day as amazingly as possible. Learn what you can and make it worth something. For once you go to sleep, that day has died; it will never happen again, only to be remembered or forgotten." Carpe Diem

Read this in a thread, and thought it was HEEEE-LARIOUS!

My Goals:
To be healthy and in great shape so I can become a police officer.

My Program:
I have been completing my nutrition guide, even when I've been bad. Even when when I don't know the calories in something, I guess, usually overestimating. When I go out to eat at a restaurant, for instance. But I do try to make good choices when I eat out. I walk 5-6 times a week, am finally back in the gym, and am doing more intentional exercise. (You know, like taking stairs instead of escalator or elevator.)

Personal Information:
I was born and still live in San Francisco.

Other Information:
I enjoy playing pool (as in billiards), and enjoy swimming in a pool. I also ride a motorcycle, quit smoking on 8/13/2006, love animals, movies, books and music, belong to a once-a-month dinner club, and am back in school majoring in Criminal Justice.
