Starting the 2018 Summer 5% Challenge in one week (June 30, 2018) so I am getting ready for that!! I have gained weight since getting married and need to get a jump start at losing weight. Also, I need to start exercising again!! Here I go..........................!

UPDATE: January 2018
January 7th is my 10th SPARKVERSARY!! Ten years on SparkPeople. I keep sparking but still have a lot to do to improve my health.... and weight! I will NEVER GIVE UP!!
I've just completed my first year of a wonderful marriage. WooHoo!

UPDATE: June 29, 2017
So, I've not been a regular on SP this past year and I've gained weight! I'm ready to lose so I'm back!
In November 2016 I married John, a widower with four children and seven grandchildren. John and I had both worked in in the same country in Africa for many years. When his wife of almost 50 years passed away he started calling me, a never before married single. Thus... leading to our Wedding almost 8 months ago.

UPDATE: January 17, 2016
This month finds me heavier than ever, especially after my trip to San Diego. I've already lost about four pounds and now to continue losing.

My plan is "fluid". I do not make resolutions. Here are some of my ideas though.

1. Continue Sparking. Keeping track of my weight on my ticker.
2. Continue going to TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) on Thursday. My husband has now joined me at TOPS so we have a bit of weekly "competition".
3. Eat fewer carbs. John is diabetic and counts his carbs each day so that helps me too as I cook low carb meals.
4. Figure out what exercise I can do. John is more handicapped then me and can not walk fast at all so when we go anywhere, I have to walk slower then usual and by all means not at a rate that will help me lose. I may start walking the halls in the condo building but haven't started doing that yet.
5. Tweak this plan as needed.

UPDATE: January 27, 2016 I gained quite a bit of weight this first year of living in the States. I'm starting to lose again though and will NEVER GIVE UP!

UPDATE: January 2, 2015 I moved back to the States at the end of November. I am now ready to get serious about losing weight!

I now live in Nebraska where I was born and raised. I worked in Africa as a nurse at a Christian hospital from 1977 - 2014. I helped start a new Mission hospital and I taught in the Nursing School.

I have been on SparkPeople since January 7, 2008, thus my Spark name Carolyn 0107. I am 63 years old.

One exciting thing. I am an Ovarian Cancer survivor since June 15, 2004! That means on June 15, 2015 I will be an 11 year Cancer Survivor! Praise the Lord!

Below find some personal comments:

January 2, 2015-- I managed to gain ten pounds last year during my transition out of Africa. I am now ready to get this weight OFF!

March 13, 2014 .. I am at my highest weight ever. I plan to move my weigh in days back to Thursdays and I also plan to celebrate small victories and not be controlled by the scale!

August 29, 2013...Nursing School where I teach started with a Spiritual Retreat. Classes begin Sept. 2nd. The weather will be getting hotter soon so it will be more difficult exercising in the African heat.

July 7, 2013... trying to walk outside most days, keeping up my exercising.

May 15, 2013... After four months without being able to post SparkPeople blogs and IT neighbor helped me figure out why and today I was able to post a new blog entry. WooHoo!
With the cooler season beginning here on the equator, I want to do more walking for exercise. It's not easy though with bad knees, the one that broke last year and the other that has bad arthritis. But, I plan on moving just the same.

January 7, 2013... my 5 year SparkVersary! This past year has been a difficult one because of breaking my left knee, falling and then breaking my left wrist (March 5th). I was in a wheelchair for 3 1/2 months then back on my feet after having had six surgeries. Although I did gain weight during the year, it could have been worse. BUT my weight loss journey restarted on Dec. 11, 2012. I have already lost 6 pounds in less than a month.

June 25, 2011- 1st 5K WALK, 60 minutes.
July 2, 2011 2nd 5K WALK, 55m25s. Shaved 4m35s off my time of last week! WooHoo!
March 5, 2012... I dislocated my left knee and broke my tibia (leg) then fell and dislocated and broke my left wrist. An artery in my knee was torn so a surgeon took a vein and made me a new artery out of the vein! On June 19, 2012 I had a total knee replacement.

Dec 11, 2012 I fly back to Africa. Praise the Lord!

Personal Information:
I lived in Africa from 1977 through 2014. I worked as a nurse at a Christian Hospital. I taught in the Nursing School. Over the years I also did various other jobs as bookkeeping, auditing, orienting new workers, helping feed visitors, etc. During these 37+ years I also taught Bible Classes and helped teach in various churches and chapels in the area.
I am now retired and refocusing my time in the States.
NOVEMBER 6, 3026 I got MARRIED for the FIRST TIME! John and I met in 1977 in Africa where we both worked. He lost his wife of almost 50 years and then he started calling me. We had 6 months of "phone dating" before marrying.

    The Biggest Loser goes for 10 weeks. It consists of 10 teams participating in weekly Fitness and Nutrition challenges. The Spring challenge will be getting started the beginning of March.
