Update April 2010
Back here on Spark, and ready to put some focus on me, a healthy lifestyle and getting fit. I have a 5k to run at the end of May. I need focus, determination, and most of all support from fellow SPers.
My goal is to motivate my family to live a healthy lifestyle, while losing weight and getting fit all before my 40th birthday in January, 2009.

I want my outside to match my inside. I feel confident, vibrant and alive. I want all the joy I have for life to be readily visible to anyone who looks at me. I am letting go of the past. I am DONE . . . done with old habits, done with old fears, done with old labels and I'm embracing new challenges, new dreams and this new journey to the me that has always been here--right inside--ready to live, ready to love, ready to laugh with family, friends and my children. This new me, she's just getting started. And as far as turning 40--well 40 is just the beginning. The best is still to come.

I have a family history of heart disease and this is something I want to do my best to stop, reverse and prevent for me and the kids. I also want to set my beautiful children up with lifelong healthy habits so that they never have to feel like a ticking time bomb due to their genetics. We all enjoy technology, which is ok within limits. However, I want us to to be free of the constant lure of computer screens, video games, junk t.v. and 24/7 technology and to go out and live life. In other words, unplug! We live in one of the most gorgeous, geographically diverse places on earth and there are lots of adventures out there to be had! Let's get going.

11/9/08 *Time for an Update
I accomplished my goal today. I ran my first ever 5K at the Redwood Empire Run for Hunger in Santa Rosa, CA. I finished about 2 mins under my goal time at 43 mins and I ran just about the whole way. Crossing the finish line was grueling but the pix on the left shows how I felt. Amazing.

I have now proven to myself that I can try and succeed right NOW. No point waiting for tomorrow, or for when I hit a magic goal weight #! The goal is fitness and being able to run that race gave me a reality check about who I really am. I am the person who gets up each morning, ready to do her personal best. I am DONE with letting others--or the scale--judge me. I won't judge myself. I am in the process of accepting who I am right now, and with 40 less than 2 months away, that is more important to me than ever. Finish Strong.

Personal Information:
My name is Lisa. I'm an East Coast gal happily living on the West Coast with my hubby and 2 beautiful children.
I'm a teacher, a writer, a photography enthusiast, a blogger, and I hope a healthy role model for my family.

I like to tell stories with photos especially black and white photography.

I love inspirational quotes and the principle of Karma.

My #1 life lesson for my kids is the Golden Rule: Do to others as you want them to do to you

Rule #2: Every so often, go ahead and do something unexpected. And what's the worst that can happen?? We always have band-aids in the car.

Rule #3: It is ok to make mistakes. If you do something wrong, say you are sorry and move on.

Rule #4: Sometimes you need to break a few rules!

My current mantras are "Be Here Now," and "One Day at a Time," but I have many and they change when they need to.

Other Information:
"Don't let the fear of striking out hold you back from trying." Babe Ruth

A Quote I collected from a fellow Sparker:
The art of being yourself at your best is the art of unfolding your personality into the person you want to be. . . . Be gentle with yourself, learn to love yourself, to forgive yourself, for only as we have the right attitude toward ourselves can we have the right attitude toward others.

Capricorn-Aquarius Cusp is anything but dull. They may be flamboyant and exciting. Even those born in this sign that seem quiet and unassuming have a vivid dream and fantasy lifeā€¦ they just prefer their excitement in private. They may be prone to unusual experiences. They are usually very visual. They may experience vivid dreams that make their waking life dull in comparison. This dream world may become their inspiration for creativity in writing, art or other endeavors.

Capricorn-Aquarius needs to find an outlet for their creativity. They have a deep need to communicate what they experience. They need to learn how to let go of negative criticism and lack of understanding by others. When they find someone who understands their creativity, they will be most happy.
Capricorn-Aquarius are responsible and may be reserved in manner. They can be critical or bossy, but they want to keep everything to high standards and succeed. They may have talents that are both creative and scientific. They may be driven to change things for the better.

Capricorn-Aquarius enjoys healthy competition. They like to be social, and love a good intellectual discussion. They can set goals for themselves and keep their nose to the grindstone until they achieve what they want. This ambition gives them a great deal of drive. They can often get away with breaking the rules in order to bring something new to light. They are hard workers and very innovative.
Capricorn-Aquarius must enjoy learning to avoid being thrown out of balance by life's unexpected challenges. If they learn to recognize the benefit even in negative experiences, they will go far. They feel a need for security, but at the same time they relish freedom. They need to find the right balance.
The Cusp of Mystery and Imagination is known to be disciplined, patient, loyal, traditional, ambitious, offbeat, progressive, cautious, practical, friendly, realistic, curious, stable, funny, confident, unique, attractive, competitive and multi-talented. They may also be rebellious, narrow-minded, cold, harsh, depressed, stubborn, secretive, aloof and over-critical.
They are good at business of any kind. They are methodical, exacting and can manage well. Capricorn steadies Aquarius' volatility, while Aquarius lends Capricorn some originality and fun. While Capricorn likes to establish and take stock of things, Aquarius likes to throw them around and see where they fall. They may be great philanthropists, or they may be selfish. They enjoy talking and entertaining.
Individuals born on the Capricorn-Aquarius cusp are proud of their triumphs in social and intellectual circles. They are good at earning a living. They are not so talented at maintaining personal relationships and may suffer difficulties in this area. They can be very perceptive and intuitive if they let themselves develop this talent.
