I am 67 years old and I have been married for 50 years. I have 2 children and 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
EXERCISE IS NOW MY PASSION! You never would have heard me say that before January 2008.
I joined Spark People in January 2008 wanting to lose 40 pounds, possibly 50. I did not know at the time how many friends I would meet along the way and how much I would learn on being healthy.
Who would have known that I would love to exercise? Certainly not me. I started out just walking about a mile once a day and continued from there. I now enjoy walking, hiking and going to Curves where I do Curves Smart.

With the help of Spark People and my friends here I reached my goal of losing 45 pounds in September 2008 and I am now maintaining my weight and trying to stay healthy and strong.
It was hard to realize that I couldn't eat the way I did 20 years ago. I have now become a label reader and I am enjoying my exercise routine.

A WORKOUT IS 25% PERSPIRATION AND 75% DETERMINATION. STATED ANOTHER WAY, IT IS ONE PART PHYSICAL EXERTION AND THREE PARTS SELF DISCIPLINE. A WORKOUT MAKES YOU BETTER TODAY THAN YOU WERE YESTERDAY.

My Goals:
My new goal is to maintain my weight at 125-130 pounds and continue to add exercise and strength training and to stay fit for the rest of my life.


My Program:
Count all calories and just don't guess and exercise, exercise, exercise.
I also do Curves Smart at least 3 days a week on my lunch hour from work and try to burn over 600 calories for the 45 min, session that I do there.
I try to walk a fast walk a few miles everyday and I love to hike on the weekend.



Personal Information:
I am from N. Calif. and I am 63 years old.


Other Information:
I love yard work with my grandsons and scrapbooking with my granddaughters.

    Hi and welcome to SparkPeople and the SP Class of January 6-12, 2008!
    Start recording everything you eat in the Nutrition Tracker, don‘t worry too much about ‘dieting‘. You'll probably notice that you're getting WAY too much sodium and not enough protein and fiber. If you're an 'emotional eater' record in the Nutrition Tracker notes what 'set you off' to a binge etc.
    Also if you aren't already, start incorporating at LEAST 8-8 ounce glasses of water every day. Your body requires that as a minimum just to sit in front of the TV all day. For every hour that you sweat you loose a quart of water ... that's FOUR CUPS. So, it's important to hydrate and REhydrate your body throughout the day.
    Participation is a great motivator. Catch up on the team threads - we’ve been pretty busy over there!

    It is wonderful that you quit smoking!! I never started because I saw my mother smoke and she had a heart attack at 58 (my age now) and died when I was 17.
    I've been a SPARKER for three months now and am thrilled with how well I've done to reach small goals. I drink my water now and exercise at least 10 minutes (actually more once I am started). I just know you can succeed, too. Sign in every single day and be honest with yourself. You can do this!
