Not right here, though there was a small tornado 20 miles or so south oif here. Not even any damage around here that I know of. They lost two schools and a fire station in Kokomo, and a bunch of houses and businesses. One tornado in the state was on the ground for 20 miles! We were really lucky. There was an almost solid band of storms, and we just happened to have a gap in the band pass over us.

    Thanks for asking, Kris.

Maw, hope you are doing OK. No tornadoes where you are, I hope.

There's my blog here, where I do the FSC. I have a lot of recipes on it, though I guess I haven't put any up recently. My other blog is a column The Weekly Special with Mary Anne in the Mother Hubbard's Cupboard blog. It's at http://mhcfoodpantry.org/category/blog/ Sorry it doesn't link automatically from here.

I do envy you all the fresh fish, especially salmon, though I do understand that it can get old. And I would definitely miss the fresh veggies, though I don't really eat very many, except in the summer when I can get them at the Farmers Market.

For the most part, yes. But you can find sale items for not bad, and there are coupons, plus since I don't like to shop I get a lot at Costco- it's like Sam's Club- I buy a lot at once and save time by not running to every store. Where is the budget blog you write about, with the recipes?

We do however get an abundance of seafood and game meat. I wouldn't eat much fish if we didn't catch it or trade for it. I miss real vegetables! A tomato that tastes like a tomato. Cucumbers you can smell when you cut into them. One of the things I do when I have to travel is bring things like that back- last stop in Seattle is Pike Place Market! In SF a year ago my traveling companion brought Bach a zucchini the size of a baby to stuff and feed a crowd, she lives more isolated than I do in a place called Tenakee Springs, she telecommutes. While she was buying BIG things, I'm scampering from stall to stall buying the smallest veggies I could find: little patty pans, tiny egg plants, mini mulit colored carrots- I put them on sticks and grilled them.

Ask away on my blog, Heidi! I'm always glad to talk about just about anything! You're at a disadvantage, living up there in Alaska. Aren't prices in general sky high up there?
