So it's time to lose weight again.

Five years ago, I lost about 45 pounds, from November to springtime, by counting calories and daily walks. It was kind of fun doing a daily numbers crunch, to see if I could afford ice cream that day, or a bar of chocolate. But my motivation was my son: I started on his birthday, swearing that I would protect my health so I could have the most quality time with him, long term.

But it all crept back, slowly. Maybe being a food writer didn't help: restaurateurs would ply me with dishes and dishes of treats to try. Maybe it was all the mac and cheese and pizza associated with playdates and birthday parties. I really don't know. I do know that a few months ago I started daily treadmill walks at the gym, and walked at lunch, and took the stairs, and parked far away from my work and at the store. I tried adding biking and other physical activities. And I thought I was eating better, better than ever. But I wasn't losi

My Program:
The key must be mindful eating. From what I've read about this diet, it's an all-you-can-eat attitude toward fruits and veggies, with some beans and whole grains added to the mix. And, for six weeks to get my body and taste-buds rebooted, no dairy, no meat, no caffeine, no alcohol, no salt shaker. I thought about the just-juicing method as practiced in the movie, but thought it a bit impractical for me; plus, I want the fiber. Dr. Fuhrman said that I could still get the health benefits by just eating huge salads, rather than just juicing. We need to discuss this, but I think I'll let my guy do the juices, and I'll make the other dishes.
