Hello.....my name is Amy, I am 50 yrs old and continuing the quest for a healthy lifestyle. I am married to a wonderful and awesome man, we have 3 children and 1 granddaughter. I am a Registered Respiratory Therapist, and I love my job. I am here to make the rest of my life the BEST of my life.

I have been with Spark since August 2009. All the weight lost so far has been within the last couple years......some before SPARK but with SPARK I have learned how to KEEP IT OFF!!! That has not happened with other past programs I have tried. This is the best I have ever felt, I feel I have control over my bad habits. I am learning so much on this site, it is unbelievable the amount of information and SUPPORT!!! I receive here. I look forward to logging on everyday,....this is an addition to my family.....this is my SPARK FAMILY!!!! Thank you.

My heaviest weight that I can remember was 262....so far in my journey i have lost 65lbs(it has happened within the last 2 yrs)......it is an unbelievable feeling. I am so close to my goal, I will not give up the fight. SP has really been the catalyst that has made me so successful.

I know that exercise is a vital part of my life, not just to get to my goal weight but a lifetime commitment!!! Also, having my hubby as my exercise partner and a member of SPARK is a big plus. Now, we have Spark friends that mall walk with us...that is a lot of fun that goes with a great workout too. We are planning future activities for our local Spark team!!! Being active is now a routine...not an exception.

UPDATE:
2013: I relocated my family from Massachusetts to West Virginia so I could become my dad's care giver after the unexpected death of my mom.

2013 is going to be a RESTART for me!! I am not going to let the health issues BEAT ME!
Gotta love it..........SPARK!!!

2012 has been a rough year. July I was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer and had thyroidectomy. October I was diagnosed with lung cancer, had a wedge resection (part of my lung removed) and will be starting chemotherapy soon. The ironic part, is I am a NON-SMOKER, lol!! I will not let this defeat me.

2013 is going to be a RESTART for me!! I am not going to let the health issues BEAT ME!
Gotta love it..........SPARK!!!

UPDATE 2016
My father passed away February 2015.
My life turned upside down for a while. The last few years taught me what is important in life!!! Time with my family and my church is where I am devoted. Money is not everything.

Thank you for your support ... you have mine as well. My birthday is October 10th. How long ago did you have surgery? My hypothyroidism I believe has contributed to a very heavy menstrual flow ... I can relate to only going out on those "light bleeding" days. I sometimes can't be out when it is so heavy. But it is not as bad as it was before taking meds for the hypothyroidsim. I sometimes think I can't wait for menopause (ha!ha!) ... but then another set of hormonal problems ...

Thanks so much ... yes, I too felt a bond. I often think we come across situations and people for a reason. Perhaps that is why we have crossed paths. I can't truly imagine what it would be like to always be feeling hungry. That would make it so hard to focus on losing weight and not wanting to eat. Do you have to plan small meals and lots of snacks? That would take a lot of planning and dedication. I always felt like I had a hard time feeling full. Many years ago I tried that Phen-Phen (spelling?) diet combination pills and while taking the Podamin, I felt full easily after eating a little and lost a lot of weight more rapidly than I would have on my own. But the phenteramine made me feel tired where it made everyone else that I knew that was taking it hyperactive (of course they lost more weight overall than me). Go figure ... nothing ever works for me normally like that (ha!ha!). I had to quit taking it because I was feeling weak and my energy was so low. Maybe I was ADHD and didn't know it so all the stimulant meds actually make me tired (my oldest daugher has ADHD) -- (smile).

Hey Amy, I can certainly understand trials. I have not had cancer, but have had many family members that have. You are blessed to be where you are at the point in time, and I so wish you the best with continuing forward. I have had a lot of physical and emotional trials over the past few years. By training I am a clinical social worker. I had to leave my job in 2003 due to depression (got put on a ton of meds ... leading to weight gain and basically had me sleeping all the time). But I had an onset of physical symptoms last year that have been ongoing ... been diagnosed with hypothyroidism since then and it's possible I may have some form of arthritis or fibromyalgia as well. Of course, my endocrinologist has told me that some of the depression may have stemmed from not having been treated for the hypothyroidism. So my motivation wanes some days when I am so fatigued and my muscles are aching so bad. I have to remind myself of little goals I have for myself or things I would like to do. Sometimes I get through the day by saying just do a little something ... so I go do it ... then I try a little something more. How do you find your health to be now? Do you sometimes worry about the future? I do at times, especially as I am getting older and having such a young child at my age. I will be 41 this October.
