When I'm not fishing, I'm golfing with my best friend - my husband. I have some health challenges that losing weight would improve, plus I want to get in better shape to enjoy my sports more and, hopefully, improve at them. My other passion is rescuing animals.

I'm 39 lbs away from my current weight loss goal - to weigh 175 lbs. I'm down 100 lbs as of 9/9/2016. Definitely need to post some new photos on my SparkPage that show my trimmer self. :)

May 2017 update - allowed myself to fall off the wagon before Thanksgiving and stayed there. So depressing and hard to get going again. Didn't make it to my ultimate goal, but I was so close and have now gained back half of what I lost in 2016. Thank goodness for SP friends who keep checking in. Let's get started again.

Fitness Minutes: 9,621

My Goals:
My overall weight goal is to reach a healthy 175 lbs. I reached 214 on 9/9/2016 (100lbs lost). On my last 39 lbs. My secondary goal is to improve my fitness - strength, flexibility, stamina.


My Program:
Eating only when I am hungry and then eating what I am hungry for and stopping as soon as I am full have been the mainstays of my program and works best for me. I incorporate healthy choices as much as possible. I am diabetic, so I generally follow the diabetic food pyramid. Recently, I've gone very low carb as blood sugar has been high and received an added benefit of some more weight loss.



Personal Information:
I am originally from Texas, but have been in Arkansas since 1987. My husband is my best friend. We golf and fish together on weekends. Otherwise we huddle at home with a large brood of rescued felines. I rescue stray cats in the neighborhood and try to improve their lives.


Other Information:
I've started reading "Diabesity - The Obesity-Diabetes Epidemic that Threatens America - and What We Must Do to Stop It" by past president of the American Diabetes Association, Francine R. Kaufman, M.D. Powerful stuff. Wish it had been around before I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes.

    I'm joining some friends and doing the "Three Month Mega Monster Daily Water Challenge," where you aim to drink 8 cups of water a day for three months. If you decide to sign up for the challenge, it shows up on your start page, under where you spin the wheel for points, as "My Spark Challenges." You can click anywhere in that box (the title or the image of the water bottle) and it will take you to the page to log in your glasses for the day. I do it as I go, if I'm logged into Sparkpeople throughout the day.

    I'm normally not one to join in with challenges, but this is one I thought I could actually accomplish and would benefit from, as drinking water is helpful with weight loss. And really any liquid counts...not just water. So I'm looking at it as just a friendly reminder to stay hydrated, not a competition. Join us if you like!
