We are now in the second half of the year, and I am motivated to make it great! The first half brought me an unexpected challenge with a breast cancer diagnosis and subsequent surgery and treatment. I am finally done radiation (starting meds now) and starting to feel like my “old self,” again, ready to get back to the business of moving more, eating healthier, and releasing these unwanted pounds! I will be 60 at the end of September, and that gives me the extra incentive to get as healthy as possible. I have noticed some aging in my body and mind the past few years (more arthritis pain and more memory issues,) but I will not let any obstacle hold me back! I live in a very active senior community, and I am inspired by all those around me who are older than me and doing amazing things for their health in retirement!

I am always so appreciative of all the caring encouragement and support I receive here at SparkPeople! Thank you to all my SparkFriends and teams who have been there for me, especially from the Aspire and Inspire team! I have so many blessings in my life.

This month I am especially excited to be starting the Summer 5% Challenge. It has been several years since I have participated, and I am thrilled to be on the awesome Shooting Stars team!

My Goals:
To gradually lose 50 pounds through a healthy lifestyle, always striving for balance, consistency and moderation.


My Program:
Eat mindfully and practice portion control.
Limit processed carbs.
5+ freggies a day
Drink 8 or more cups of water.
Aim for 30 minutes or more of fitness each day or an average of that for the week.
Summer pool walking with weights.
Indoor cardio every day (YouTube videos, dancing, walk/jog around the house, use my step
Strength training 3 or more times a week (at home or at the gym)
Yoga or stretching every day



Personal Information:
I'm Amy, originally from southeastern PA, but now retired from teaching and living a blessed life in central Florida (5 years in December, 2018.) I've been married to my husband, Dave for 30 years, and we have a 29 yo son named Sean and two adorable Cairn terriers, Max and Sophie, who are also slowing down in their senior years (14 and 12 yo)
