Meet my family! The oldest of my sons, Jerry, is 27and is a Corporal in the Marine Corps. He returned from his first tour of duty in Iraq and is now stationed somewhere in the Middle East on his second tour. Also, we welcomed Courtney, his wife, into the family June, 2007. Gabe is 23, he lives in Arizona. The middle son is Ben is also living in Arizona. These three sons graduated high school through a home school program. Steve, age 17, attends public school and is an honor roll student. Dan, age 16, is finishing his GED to attend college fall 2009. This summer, the four boys are traveling to China to attend a Martial Arts Academy. I am very proud of these kids!

Personal Information:
Hi everyone! I'm Melody. I reached "over-the-hill" status last April. Menopause hit me pretty hard: I went into serious depression: wouldn't get out of bed for over a month, when I did, I would cry if a stop light turned red. I gained 40 pounds in 4 months, mostly due to the pills the Dr. gave me. Quit the pills and started walking to control the depression symptoms. Right now, I have mostly suppressed those symptoms, but I still have the extra weight. What I need is motivation, and that's what I am hoping to find here at Spark People. Thanks for reading about me.

Other Information:
Single-parent mother of five boys is a really tough job. Very challenging, long-term commitment.

    Hi,
Hope you had a good weekend! I don't live right on a lake but we do spend a lot of time in nice weather around lakes. There are hundreds of lakes in this area. It is part of the Canadian Shield. In the winter the weather is cold and snowy here but in the summer it can be very hot and humid. We enjoy the seasons. The best weather is usually in September and October. It is cooler than the summer, there aren't as many mosquitoes and the air is fresh. I don't ice fish and I don't really trust ice to be fully frozen in the winter. There are a lot of tales of people going out on thin ice and falling in. Each winter snowmobilers drown because their vehicles go through the ice. Pretty scary! It was a beautiful sunny but cool day here. We went for a nice drive with friends and stopped at a country pub for dinner. It was really quaint and filled with locals and amateur singers and guitar players up on stage. Lots of fun!! Have a good week and talk with you again soon.

Hi there, You have a great looking family and I can understand why you are proud of them. Sounds like they are all growing up to be decent young men. Glad your oldest has returned from Iraq safe and sound. It is a tough world we live in now. I have two sons (3l & 26) so I can appreciate what a tough job you have had raising 5 on your own. Congratulations! Takes a tough momma to get through all that! Wishing you much success in meeting your health and fitness goals. Drop by my SPARK page if you get a chance. Nice to meet you !

Just checking in, been quiet this way but I see your ticker moving! I'm back to square one, but that's a start. Keep workin' it, baby ... Started volunteering at the local animal shelter, then immediately abandoned my stretch/exercise routine. Plain dumb, normal, but dumb. DD got a contract with Tropicana/Folies Bergere, but at their satellite show in Laughlin. Hey, gotta start somewhere. She's thrilled because there will be only six dancers so will have more spotlight time. Hope things are going good with you, new house not too much work, not too much heat. Keep on truckin'

Glean these words of wisdom! You're the best Dedene!

"Not over the hill; 50 is the new 30!" (love that)

"Eat 5-6 times a day, never go hungry; drink only water and tea, alcohol revs the appetite." (great advice)

I've never been athletic either, but you heard her, if Dedene can do it, I CAN!
