June 2013 – I gave birth to Annie on January 31, 2013 via c-section (second baby, second c-section). I lost the first 30 of the 50 pounds I gained pretty quickly. However, since April, I’ve been hovering around the 160 mark and am ready to get serious with my nutrition. So, I’m back on Spark to track my food, interact with other sparkies, and to ultimately lose the fat I gained.

Here is a little of my history with SparkPeople:
I began using SP in 2006 at around 145 pounds, with my ultimate goal of getting to 127. Prior to SP, I was somewhere in the low 160s, and lost the weight counting calories and exercising (nothing too consistent, however). Fast forward 3 years to mid-2009, and I found myself wonderfully pregnant. I did get down to an all-time low of 133 approx 1.5 months before getting pregnant.

My beautiful baby, Donnie, was born on March 29, 2010. 20 hours before his birth, I weighed in on my scale at home (with clothes on) at around 203. Huge for a 5'1" girl – results of eating whatever I wanted.

In January 2011, I began working for the US gov’t, and lost regular access to the internet, which is why I stopped Sparking. After work, with a baby, getting on the computer to log everything was just too much for me. In July 2011, I started CrossFit in preparation to be the maid of honor at my best friend’s wedding. In September 2011, I read “The Paleo Solution” by Robb Wolf, and my entire mindset on nutrition was spun and flipped upside down. In practice, however, I’ve been less diligent than I want.

In May 2012, I was at my all-time adult low of 128 pounds, looking pretty fit and feeling fantastic due to CrossFit and an 8-week paleo challenge. Then, I immediately got pregnant. Though I crossfitted throughout the entire pregnancy, I was not paleo-compliant with my nutrition, and ate way too many carbs and sweets. I gained 50 pounds. I maintained a lot of strength, but still got too fat.

In January 2013, right before I had Annie, I left the Government and went back to my old job, which I love (and missed while I was gone). Luckily, I had left my old job on extremely good terms (gave my boss 7 months’ notice), and was asked to come back. The US Gov’t job wasn’t all it was cracked up to be, so I was happy to go.

So, I’m back, and my goal is to maintain a low carb paleo diet, crossfit often, and just keep moving. And, I have internet access all of the time now, which means I should make some time to log my food – it’s worth it!

BTW – I’m not too worried about calories. I’m more worried about WHAT I put in my mouth. My mind was blown once I read “Why We Get Fat” by Gary Taubes. Hopefully, you’ll read it too, and it will help you on your journey as well. If only I could employ what I’ve learned in my daily actions! Hence, I’m back at spark. I need all the help I can get!

My Program:
I am a firm believer in the 80-10-10 rule. Nutrition is 80% of the equation, exercising without proper nutrition is basically a waste. Putting the effort required into eating healthy and nutritiously ensures that my workouts actually mean something!

Ultra-Low-Carb 6.5 days a week, with a 'carb nite' on Saturdays! Trying to keep it mostly paleo/primal!

Goal Weight: 127 OR wherever I see my most fit/lean/happy self. (must be happy!)

Other Information:
I don't exercise to lose weight. Nutrition will do that. I exercise to have fun, be competitive, and to get stronger, faster, and fitter.

    Hi, hows the challenge at your gym? What is the challenge about?

    I'm getting back to tracking this week, I slacked off while I was dealing with some stress at home and work, I didn't gain but I didn't lose. So back to tracking it is! I have new family photos scheduled for 11/2 and want to be 160 by then, so I need to get in gear!!

    Hey Andrea, don't feel to bad about that ice cream cake, cake happens! And you're right, stay clean and you can do this. The important part is making sustainable changes, so sometimes birthday cake is gonna happen, you just don't let that de-rail you into a weeks and months of crappy eating, just accept it as part of your normal life and focus on the healthy eating the rest of the time!

    Phew! It has been quite a few years! I am still struggling with the extra few pounds ... and I have found myself going full throttle at the gym for weeks at a time...then slacking off...then nom nom nomming on things that should only be eaten in moderation.
    It is much harder for me this time, you'd think that being at the beach I'd be more motivated to get into and STAY in my bikinis.
    Oh well.

    You vacation in CAHRALLAH!!! That's north of where I am but yes our sister company handles rentals, I shall send you their info.
