My name is Lisa Adams and I am 60yrs old. I have never done a page before even though in years past I have used the site. I must get down from 251lbs. I was 268 and now I'm 259. If I don't change directions I will be back up there. I have been big all my life but in most of my years I was shapely and active so always belived I could not possibly weigh what charts or Drs. would say. I got to 50 yrs old and got into real trouble going higher each yr. with menophause and giving up so much. I now know I can get the weight off, i just have to continue in the lifestyle and never give up! I haven't finished too many things in my life. I did quite smoking yrs ago and I thought it was the hardest thing I could ever do. Ha! I do want to finish this and change my life. I need buddies and I want to be one to someone else.
Well I'm starting again after such along time of doing other diets or
nothing. I got up to 272. I didn't stay there long but couldn't belive it.
My husband and I are not good dieting partners,we love to take weekend drives and junk eat in the truck and snack at night together. It makes us feel better about doing it. I had to have knee replacement this Jan. and before that I decide that was it. So in Dec. of 2013 I started working at it and lost 30 lbs before the surgery. I sailed through the surgery and now I am back here even though I really dreaded the constant keeping track of everything but, I know that is what works for me and I need the partners and accountabilaty. So now I am 63yrs old but like I said "I can never give up" because I only have "One Life 2 Live".

    I agree with you about what the charts say you should weigh and your actual weight. They can't say that because some of us are carrying around a lot of muscle mass (which weighs more than fat) and bone mass, and so, I say "phooey on them." I guess it's just a guideline, but they say I should weigh between 105 and 120! If I got that low, I'd be emaciated!! LOL

    You don't look like you could be anywhere near 60! You look great! emoticon emoticon

    Congrats on taking the next step to reaching a healthier you by getting active with SparkPeople - it's a great community, wonderful resources and fantastic support.

    Please check out the SparkTeams - I think you will find a lot of others 'just like you' there. You can choose SparkTeams by age group, lifestyle or interests, geographic location or several other ways - some of the teams you might like include the Official 10-minute Daily Exercise Streak Challenge, Starting Over Weekly Mini-Challenge Team, 10k Steps A Day and Motivation & Positive Attitude Plan but there are so many to choose from, you can have a great time looking for the ones that seem to fit you best! In fact, I suggest joining more than one group, post your intro there and write blogs as often as you can - you will find tons of friends and support that way, I promise!!

    In my experience, SparkPeople is like a emoticon in some ways - it's lots of fun and easy to make friends because we're all in this together. I like the way a HEALTHY LIFESTYLE is emphasized instead of a 'quick fix wonder diet' so it's good for people wanting to lose weight, maintain a previous loss, get healthier, improve fitness and many other goals - it's about waaaaaay more than 'just' losing weight so you have definitely come to the right place!


    If you ever need any help using features of the site, there are tutorial videos under the HELP section that can show you how to use the features of the site. You can also find them on the START page and several other places on the site.


    If you haven't already discovered The Spark book and/or the SparkDiet linked at the bottom of the START page, check them out - the program is simple but extremely effective. There is a TON of information on this site - so much it might even seem overwhelming but fortunately we don't have to 'digest' everything at once! The FastBreak program is a good way to start.


    Another nice thing about SparkPeople is that we have permission to be human - we don't have to change everything at once or be in a hurry to reach our goals. Take a few baby steps and then a few more and before you know it, you'll have completed a long journey - I hope you enjoy this community as much as I do - it teaches us how to make positive lifetime changes because that's the only thing that will work over time!
