Hi, I'm Carrie. At 5'1" and 185 lbs, I am the heaviest I have been in my entire life at the age of 31 and I desperately want to do something about it.

During my entire childhood I was very active, playing soccer, tennis and softball. I burned off everything I ate, but that all changed as soon as I graduated high school. I continued to eat the same way, but stopped exercising. That was when I learned about my dysfunctional relationship with food and I started to gain.

At age 23, I had a lipid panel done and my cholesterol was sky-high (runs in my family), and the doc threatened to put me on meds. I think I was around 135 lbs. My eating habits got better over the next year, but not enough to correct my weight problem.

I haven’t had a solid taste of weight loss since about 2004 when I lost 15 lbs before I became injured while running and had to stop for 3 months. That totally killed my momentum and ever since I have had difficulty with getting back into that mindset.

I have been involved in SparkPeople off and on since 2006, but it has been so hard to motivate myself to lose all that I need to lose, for one reason or another. I’m really hoping that with the support available on this site, I can find the same success I read about in others’ sparkpages.

In the last few years, my weight has climbed into the 160s. In March 2009, I signed up for a race in November, however, in October 2009, 2 months into serious training, I learned I was pregnant with my daughter. By the time I gave birth to the most beautiful strawberry blonde-headed baby girl you have ever laid eyes on in May 2010, I had gained another 28 lbs, most of which I still carry.

I am, for now, a stay-at-home mom and I love it. I often think about her future and it is so important to me that my daughter grows up with healthier habits than I have, but I struggle, like many sparkers, with changing them. I’d like for her to have a healthy, energetic mother. I would also like to avoid several health complications that I am genetically predisposed to as a result of obesity. I need to do this for her sake, mine and for that of the rest of my family so that I can be there for them later in life.

My biggest challenge now is juggling a baby along with my other responsibilities to my health, my household and the other people in my life. I have such a difficult time with motivation. Always have.

So here I am... AGAIN. It is another several years, a baby, and many more gained pounds later, but I’m back to SparkPeople to give it another go. I now have approx 60 lbs to shed.

My main goal is a healthier lifestyle. I would also like to develop smarter habits, find peace within myself and relief from anxiety. I'd like to feel good in my skin, comfortable in my clothes, and to gain the confidence in myself that I so richly deserve. This will also help me to be the best mama I can be to my baby♥girl.

Feel free to friend me, leave me advice, inspiration or a comment below. I am looking for buddies to keep in contact with regularly so we can help each other stay on track. Any motivation or encouragement is appreciated and vital to my success!

God bless and the best of luck to you in your own personal journey.

-----------------------UPDATE (2/10/12)...

Well, my 2011 efforts resulted in a 20 lb loss, of which I have regained about 10. Starting weight this time is 173. Getting back on track to do it this time.

‎If you don't like how things are, do something about it! You're not a tree.
- jim rohn

Being relaxed, at peace with yourself, confident, emotionally neutral, loose, and free-floating - these are the keys to successful performance in almost everything you do.
- wayne dyer

I have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which one has overcome while trying to succeed.
- booker t. washington

Don't sacrifice your future for a momentary pleasure.

Never give up on a dream just because of the length of time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway.

Don't let the fear of the time it will take to accomplish something stand in the way of your doing it. The time will pass anyway, we might just as well put that passing time to the best possible use.
- earl nightingale

Run when you can, walk when you have to, crawl if you must just never give up.
- dean karnazes

To insure good health: Eat lightly, breathe deeply, live moderately, cultivate cheerfulness, and maintain an interest in life.
- william londen

You can't make footprints in the sands of time if you're sitting on your butt. And who wants to make buttprints in the sands of time?
- bob moawad

I hated every minute of training, but I said, "Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion."
- muhammad ali

The road to success is not straight: there is a curve called failure, a loop called confusion, speed bumps called friends, red lights called enemies and caution lights called jobs. But if you have a spare called determination, an engine called perseverance, a driver called God, you will make it to a place called SUCCESS!

Nothing tastes as good as thin feels.

The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one.
- mark twain

Your body keeps an accurate journal regardless of what you write down.

When you get to a plateau, think of it as a landing on the stairway to your goal. Maintenance is a lifelong plateau, so a bit of "rehearsal" for maintenance isn't the worst thing in the world.

Inertia is a property of behavior.

My advice is to go into something and stay with it until you like it. You can't like it until you obtain expertise in that work. And once you are an expert, it's a pleasure.
- milton garland

Living a healthy lifestyle will only deprive you of poor health, lethargy, and fat.
- jill johnson

Goals are the fuel in the furnace of achievement.
- brian tracy, eat that frog

Be miserable. Or motivate yourself. Whatever has to be done, it's always your choice.
- wayne dyer

Nobody's perfect... Perfect is boring.

Fitness is not about six-pack abs. It's a tool to help you reinvent yourself. It's about exercising your greatness, feeling the full potential of your power and reaching it with no shame. Those abs? They're a little bonus.
- jillian michaels

You can tell me that you choose not to. You can tell me that you choose to quit, that you choose to be less than what you are and less than what God intended but don’t ever tell me that you can’t do it!
- jillian michaels

Unless You Puke, Faint or Die, Keep Going!
- jillian michaels

Put your big girl panties on and deal with it!

If hunger is not the problem, then eating is not the solution.

There is no failure in running, or in life, as long as you keep moving. It is not about speed or gold medals. It is about refusing to be stopped.

The one way to get thin is to re-establish a purpose in life.
- cyril connolly

Don't get your knickers in a twist. nothing is solved and it makes you walk funny.
- katherine carpenter

You only ever grow as a human being if you’re outside your comfort zone.
- percy cerutty

What we feel, think and do this moment influences both our present and our future in ways we may never know. Begin. Start right where you are. Consider your possibilities and find inspiration to add more meaning and zest to your life.
- alexandra stoddard

You've been provided with a perfect body to house your soul for a few brief moments in eternity. So regardless of its size, shape, color, or any imagined infirmities, you can honor the temple that houses you by eating healthfully, exercising, listening to your body's needs, and treating it with dignity and love.
- wayne dyer

We can reverse years of damage to our bodies by deciding to raise our standards for ourselves, then living differently. Old wounds heal, injuries repair, and the whole system improves with just a few changes in what we put into our bodies and how we move them.

The common conception is that motivation leads to action, but the reverse is true....action precedes motivation. You have to "prime the pump" and get the juice flowing, which motivates you to work on your goals. Getting momentum going is the most difficult part of the job, and often taking the first step is enough to prompt you to make the best of your day.
- robert mckain

I have come too far in life to take orders from a cookie.

Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. Now, if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain't you. You're better than that!

When you walk to the edge of all the light you have
and take that first step into the darkness of the unknown,
you must believe that one of two things will happen:
there will be something solid for you to stand upon,
or, you will be taught how to fly.

Refuse to allow yourself to have low expectations about what your capable of creating. As Michelangelo suggested, the greater danger is not that your hopes are too high and you fail to reach them; it`s that they are too low and you do.
Have within you an imaginary candle flame that burns brightly regardless of what goes before you. Let this inner flame represent for you the idea that you are capable of manifesting miracles in your life.
- wayne dyer

Momentum can be difficult to establish. And that's what makes it so valuable.
Because once you have it going in your favor, momentum can be hard to stop. With momentum on your side, small efforts can bring big results, and those big results can lead to even bigger ones.
Yes, momentum takes some effort and commitment to put into motion. And it is very much worth the trouble.
Take the time and make the effort to start something positive. Even though, in the short term, it would be easier and more comfortable to just do nothing, look past those immediate concerns.
Look ahead to that point where momentum kicks in, and consider the value of putting it to work in your favor. Then get up, get going, and get to work on building that momentum.
Start something positive, and create some valuable momentum. You'll be able to ride that momentum as far as you can imagine.
- ralph marston

Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans:
That the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too.
All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favour all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way.
Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it.
Boldness has Genius, Power and Magic in it.
Begin it now.
- goethe

Running is a road to self-awareness and reliance.
You can push yourself to extremes and learn the harsh reality of your physical and mental limitations or coast quietly down a solitary path watching the earth spin beneath your feet.
But when you are through, exhilarated and exhausted, at least for a moment everything seems right with the world.

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don't you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace seems slow--
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than,
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor's cup,
And he learned too late when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out--
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit--
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.
