My new workout gloves. Christmas gift from DH.

Did a strong treadmill cardio workout this morning, followed by 3 x 30 second tricep dips and pushups on the Powerplate. Feeling good!

After a journey towards motherhood that crushed my spirit only to see it soar again, I am today the happy mommy to a gorgeous (and terrorist-ish) 4 year old boy! We couldn't fall pregnant naturally or by IVF, but we believe we were meant to adopt Levi and he has given us so much joy!

However, we all know about those "happy pounds" and when I started this journey again by visiting the gym on 22 Nov 2017, I weighed 94.98kg.

Sixteen months later, I weigh 77kg and feel massively better about myself. I am fitter and stronger, have some definition in my arms and legs and I'm wearing shorts and sleeveless tops that I never would have considered a year ago!

My original goal had been "To be a MILF by 40". Well, I turned 40 last month and while I definitely could lose more weight, my goal and focus has shifted away from my physical appearance and rather to the long-term health benefits of a fit and healthy lifestyle. The "MILF" tag also is a bit embarrassing, now that I think about it...

My mom has several health issues in her 70s and has had a hip replacement and needs both knees replaced too. My mom-in-law has had two hip replacements, my sister is on chronic medication (she is overweight), my dad-in-law has had a hip replacement, my sister-in-law may need a shoulder replacement and my dad died of liver cancer. With all of these "oldies" suffering such ailments, I think of my little boy and how I want to be there for him, fit and healthy and able to play with him for decades to come. I can't do that if I'm hunched over in a walker!

SO, the new goal is to LIFT LIFT LIFT! I know that strength training does wonders for your skeletal health and that is ultimately what I want to achieve underneath all the muscle I want to build. I want to LOOK strong, I want to be lean and mean and strike fear into the heart of any wood-be mugger. I live in South Africa where crime is a daily reality and I don't want to be a statistic.

So the plan is to take part in a weight training class whenever I have a free Sunday morning and to lift progressively heavier weights for every part of my body. I also want to start doing workout plans rather than just doing stuff I think works for me (5 Apr 2018: haven't gotten as far as printing out workouts yet....). A structured workout regime is what 2018 will bring, not just a bunch of workouts strung together in an effort to burn calories. NO, I need a better plan!

So, I look forward to sharing my progress pics with y'all! Muscles, I'm coming for ya!
