I am a 30-something mother of 3, full-time college student and a very lucky woman married to a wonderful man who is serving in the U.S. Army. I had lost a lot of weight a few years ago but gained it all back with my last pregnancy (yeah, gained it all and then some back) and been struggling so hard to get it off. I have started slowly with going back to the gym, eating a little bit better but not as good as I should have been. Then one day my 5-year old told me I was fat then the next day I discovered my husband was shopping for my birthday present at Lane Bryant. Nothing against Lane Bryant, they have beautiful clothes there sometimes, but just knowing that my husband had in mind to shop for me at a plus-size store kind of broke my heart, thinking that he probably doesn't think of me as that sexy, slimmer woman he met and fell in love with. I need to really get a lot better at eating better and being more active and stop giving myself excuses to not go to the gym or that it's okay to eat this one bad thing....only to continually do it which is sabotaging my diet and self esteem.

My Goals:
I want to at least, AT LEAST, get back to a size 8 or smaller. I gained so much weight with my last pregnancy (I took that "eating for two" thing WAY too seriously) plus we were stationed in Louisiana where the foods were all fried, dipped in hot sauce and slathered in butta (butter :P) and it hurts to look in a mirror. I want to know, when my husband says that I look fantastic, that I really do look fantastic. We are currently living in CA while my husband is stationed overseas and we are due to move in November '11 to Washington and I hope to at least be back to an 8 or 9 by then (right now I'm a 14). I also want my kids (I have three of them) to see their mom as a healthy woman who takes care of herself and able to do all the other things on I do on a regular basis on top of that.

My Program:
I am cutting my calories way way back (thanks to the nutrition info on the sparkpeople website, it is extremely helpful with calorie goals and counting). I have a trainer two days a week who has been kicking my butt. I got lucky with this one, he was my little brother's best friend in jr. high and high school, so I got a pretty darn good deal, otherwise, I wouldn't be able to afford it. When I'm not with the trainer two days a week, I shoot for going to the gym at least an additional two to three days and one of those days I try to go to spin class (LOVE LOVE LOVE, my favorite class by far!) and sometimes yoga. We'll see where this path takes me....

Personal Information:
I am a California girl born and bred. It's hard to say where I grew up because we moved all over CA as I grew up, but am currently in the high desert. My husband is in the U.S. Army and currently stationed in South Korea. He is my best friend, my rock, my hero and everything else in between and then some. He is amazing. I know he deserves the best that's why it kills me with the fact that I've gained so much weight. He'll disagree and say I look wonderful but he loves me and is very partial. I want to look way better for him and for my own confidence and health.

We have three beautiful children (11 years old-girl, 5 years old-girl and a 1 year old-boy) and man do they keep me BUSY! Love them to pieces!

Oh and let's not forget my "furry child" Cali....our 2, almost 3 year old boxer. She is a part of the family and as sweet as they come. Love her so much! She sometimes plays "mother hen" to the kids. Any one of them is in any kind of distress, she is right t

Other Information:
Books: almost any Nick Hornby book, I am reading "Water For Elephants" right now and of course I LOVE Jane Austen. Still, one of my all time favorites is the children's book "Ferdinand". I don't know what it is but it has a special place in my heart.

Movies: Princess Bride and the Back to the Future Movies and Australia....oh and I love classics like Casablanca, Gigi, An American In Paris, this list can go on FOREVER :P

TV Shows: Conan, The Office, Modern Family....oh and yes....i too love Glee :P

I love pandas, family is the most important thing to me, I love the feeling of a sneeze, I can't stand the sound of raking (like raking leaves or something, like nails on a chalkboard to me) and I love the ocean, history and have faith in God. That's me in a nutshell....haha :P

Thank you for spending the time to read my blog - I think having just put that blog together - the first time I have actually put the developing story together like that and now the penny has dropped - and I am beginning to realise what I have done!! So - I'm just a bit slow in the uptake!! LOL!!
However it has proved one thing to me – that if I can do it anyone can do it and you will find that the results are way beyond your wildest dreams!!

    emoticon Greetings and emoticon

Congrats on taking the next step to reaching a healthier you by getting active with SparkPeople - it's a great community, wonderful resources and fantastic support. You're off to a great start already!

Please check out the SparkTeams - I think you will find a lot of others 'just like you' including moms who are full-time students and facing their overweight situation. You can choose SparkTeams by age group, lifestyle or interests, geographic location or several other ways.

Some of the teams I like and think you might like include the Official 10-minute Daily Exercise Streak Challenge, Starting Over Weekly Mini-Challenge Team, 10k Steps A Day and Motivation & Positive Attitude Plan - but there are so many to choose from, you can have a great time looking for the ones that seem to fit you best! In fact, I suggest joining more than one group, post your intro there and write blogs as often as you can - you will find tons of friends and support that way, I promise!!

In my experience, SparkPeople is like a emoticon in some ways - it's lots of fun and easy to make friends because we're all in this together. I like the way a HEALTHY LIFESTYLE is emphasized instead of a 'quick fix wonder diet' so it's good for people wanting to lose weight, maintain a previous loss, get healthier, improve fitness and many other goals including gaining weight or saving money - it's about waaaaaay more than 'just' losing weight so you have definitely come to the right place!

If you ever need any help using features of the site, there are tutorial videos under the HELP section that can show you how to use the features of the site. You can also find them on the START page and several other places on the site.

Be sure to read and 'study' The Spark book because it outlines the overall program and is compatible with most types of eating plans. If you haven't already discovered the SparkDiet linked at the bottom of the START page, check it out - the program is simple but extremely effective. There is a TON of information on this site - so much it might even seem overwhelming but fortunately we don't have to 'digest' everything at once! The FastBreak program is a good way to start.

Another nice thing about SparkPeople is that we have permission to be human - we don't have to change everything at once or be in a hurry to reach our goals. Take a few baby steps and then a few more and before you know it, you'll have completed a long journey - I hope you enjoy this community as much as I have - it teaches us how to make positive lifetime changes because that's the only thing that will work over time!
