My Fall Challenge Page
March 12, I finally started checking my blood sugar. I had thought for at least two years that I was diabetic but put it off because I wasn’t ready to make a change. I went to a free screening clinic as I didn’t want to see a doctor but they wouldn’t take my A1C as I was only in the medium risk category. I tried to find a walk-in clinic but they were closed/finished registration so I went and bought a set of strips and got the meter for free. My post-prandial reading that night was 20.6!!!!! ...

I tried to find a walk-in clinic but they were closed/finished registration so I went and bought a set of strips and got the meter for free. My post-prandial reading that night was 20.6!!!!! And my fasting level the next day was 16.9. I decided to try and get my numbers down by losing weight, as you could see a big change in your numbers by losing 10% of your weight which for me was 20 or 21 pounds (started at 207). Since then I’ve lost 18 pounds and my fasting numbers are in the nines with a couple tens to keep me on the right track and a couple eights to tease me with. This fall, with a lot of hard work, the overweight mark of 174/175 is within reach so that is my goal for the end of the fall challenge. I plan to reach this by walking one way to work five days a week (1.5 hours), staying within carb range 5 days a week (giving myself Friday and Saturday to treat myself a little), getting yoga in at least twice a week, and using my resistance bands/stability ball set at least once a week. I plan to guzzle down the water which is a challenge for me every round getting at least 8 cups a day Monday to Friday ... I have a really hard time of it on the weekend.
