No wonder they decorate with pink and blue in Florida--that's the color of the vast cloud mounds in the sky, where the lightning plays at any time of day. You never know what might be going on around here, but good food, friends, characters, physical activity, and my thoughts, goals, and interests of the moment are going to be part of it.

When I first joined SparkPeople 14 years ago, I think, I'd seen my weight creeping up and decided that I needed to be more aware of what I was eating and how much I was exercising. Well, it just happened again! Having a weekly restaurant news column in the local paper is NOT a great method of self-control. Note to self: It's never okay to just eat and drink whatever you damn please!

Make sure to eat at least SOME breakfast every day, for a kick-start! Walk a total of 5 miles, 10,000 steps, a day. Eat only when hungry and stop when full. (This is NOT easy, by the way.) Do daily pilates-type exercises to keep my hips and back limber. Upper-body weight training every other day.

My passions lately are writing and getting to be expert in the local restaurant scene. Retirement is proving far busier than full-time employment, if less lucrative.
