My name is Jean and I am 68 years young. Even though I have lung cancer and maybe I should say because of lung cancer I try to live each day as if happiness consists of living each day as if it were the first day of my honeymoon and the last day of my vacation.

I live in the foothills of NC. I keep my SP page up to date and would love to have you stop by!

My Goals:
I joined Sparks in March 2010 to finish my weight loss program. I have hit my goal of 121 lbs (original starting weight 183 lbs.)! and have been in the SP maintenance mode of 101 weeks now.

Beginning in 2012 when I retired I began regularly using SP the way it was intended to benefit the "total" me. Up to that time my schedule permitted me to use the Nutrition Tracker and the SP information that is available to Another function of SP for me is to make sure that I am getting my nutrients to assure that I can help my oncologist. He loves when I can hand him a print out of my daily sodium intake every 3 weeks!

My Program:
My maintenance program is working as far as diet goes! But as a result of lifestyle changes due to cancer I now have somewhat of limited tools available so I make sure that I use each one to the fullest extent daily! I use an Activcycle and walk as much as I can.

Personal Information:
Born in Aitkin MN, I grew up in NC, moved my dairy herd to WI in 1993 and came back to NC in 2013 as that is where all of my family is.

Until March of 2012 I was a dairy farmer. Now I am retired!

Other Information:
I love to read and Santa gave me a new NOOK for Christmas so am really enjoying! Although I am beginning to understand that technology may be evolving faster than I am! I miss turning pages....

I should thank Sparks because Recipes are one of my favorites. I live in a strange "cooking world" as my husband has Celiac Disease and I am a vegetarian. The recipe calculator has really been a tool for me to survive!

    I just read this poem & felt it too good not to share on this CHRISTmas Eve! God bless!

    {This is another version of 'Twas The Night Before Christmas' }

    'Twas the night before Jesus came
    and all through the house
    Not a creature was praying,
    Not one in the house.
    Their Bibles were lain on the shelf without care
    In hopes that Jesus would not come there.

    The children were dressing to crawl into bed.
    Not once ever kneeling or bowing a head.
    And Mom in her rocker with baby on her lap
    Was watching the Late Show while I took a nap.

    When out of the East there arose such a clatter.
    I sprang to my feet to see what was the matter.
    Away to the window I flew like a flash,
    Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash!

    When what to my wondering eyes should appear
    But angels proclaiming that Jesus was here.
    With a light like the sun sending forth a bright ray
    I knew in a moment this must be THE DAY!

    The light of His face made me cover my head
    It was Jesus! returning just like He had said.
    And though I possessed worldly wisdom and wealth,
    I cried when I saw Him in spite of myself.

    In the Book of Life which He held in His hand
    Was written the name of every saved man.
    He spoke not a word as He searched for my name;
    When He said "it's not here" my head hung in shame.

    The people whose names had been written with love
    He gathered to take to His Father above.
    With those who were ready He rose without a sound.
    While all the rest were left standing around.

    I fell to my knees, but it was too late;
    I had waited too long and thus sealed my fate.
    I stood and I cried as they rose out of sight;
    Oh, if only I had been ready tonight.

    In the words of this poem the meaning is clear;
    The coming of Jesus is drawing near.
    There's only one life and when comes the last call
    We'll find that the Bible was true after all!

    (by Reverend Edward M. Gionest, Sr.)

    To those who receive Him, He gives the power to become the sons of God, even to those that believe on his name. Repent and declare with your mouth that Jesus is your Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him up from the dead, you will be saved.
