Thanks so much for the Spark goodie and for checking out our website. I do wish we could ship to more places. It's very frustrating!

I checked out your blog and a couple of things really stood out - those little green berries you mentioned for one. We see those a lot in processing and we do try to keep them out. Some of the larger wineries just ignore them as they do not 'crush' (they are too hard) but then they are processing several tons of fruit at once. With small batches every little variable is more noticeable - so we try to keep our fruit as 'clean' as possible.

And - yes- building up a good volunteer group is essential. We were pretty used to doing most of the work ourselves and putting in impossibly long days. But our volunteer force is getting larger and this year we had a few days where we finished hours ahead of time. The more hands, the better.

I also want to re-enforce your commitment to a lifestyle change. I don't 'diet' - I have made significant changes to my diet and the weight loss on my ticker has been over the past 2 years. Losing quickly just doesn't stick. Now if I could just get back into exercising! But, like you, I am in a post harvest slump and I don't feel like doing anything!

Best of luck with your fruit this year! We don't have our own vines, but we buy grapes from Eastern Washington where the climate is better for them. I see you are growing Marsanne! We make a nice Roussanne/Viognier blend. Marsanne is pretty rare in Wa still - we've only had Roussanne for @ 8 years up here and we have some new plantings of Grenache Blanc. I LOVE the Rhone whites. Of course we are a tiny producer and have to jostle with the 'big boys' to get grapes.

We are quite busy right now with harvest & crush. We got 2 tons of chardonnay last weekend and a ton of merlot. We are still expecting another ton of chard (older vines - planted in the late 70's) sometime in the next week.

Anyway - welcome to Spark! Nice to 'meet' you.
