I've not been holding myself accountable for my fitness and food intake, and I feel like it's finally time to take control and make healthier choices!

I am a former performing belly dancer from a troupe called Nazeem Alsabah ("Breezes of the Dawn") here in Atlanta, which is the student troupe with Atlanta Belly Dance studios. Although I have stepped down from the troupe life, I still dance on a regular basis. Belly dance is a wonderful art form that accepts and embraces all different body types and all walks of life, and it gave me a sense of confidence I had never before known in my life.

Once upon a time I was 220 pounds, and I had grown up overweight or obese for my age through my entire life. I was inactive and I struggled with secretive binge eating and emotional eating. I was all around unhappy. Since then I've learned to love exercise and healthy food, but life has consistently found little ways to challenge my adherence to a healthy lifestyle. From 220 I dropped to 180, from 180 I gained up to 205, from 205 I dropped clear down to 145. I stayed 145 for about a year before I gained back to where I am now... about 180 again.

I've let gaining the weight back drive my lack of motivation for a little too long now. I've been through enough trials in life that I know I'm emotionally stronger now than I was before. I'm confident now that I can make the final push, because I deserve to do this for myself.

I've been doing West African dance for about 20 years. I really admire the look and control of belly dancing! It must be fun to be really good at it. emoticon

I was looking for people that were in the weight loss goal and age range as I am, and I saw your page. Honestly, the whole thing about wanting to look good... that's all normal. And honestly, it's motivation for a lot of people out there- including myself. I don't feel there's anything wrong with it as long as you're doing it in a healthy way. Which with belly dancing and starting a healthier lifestyle, it seems you're definitely on the right track!
