I remember when weight was never a concern for me. Tall, thin, and didn't have a care in the world about the types of clothes I would pick out to wear, what I was eating, etc. Boy has that all changed! A lot in my life changed a while back; moved, new job (from retail to an office job) where I was less active, my soon-to-be husband was working until 8:00pm so dinner was right before bed-time. I never knew that weight could come on so quickly, and take so long to get off. That was about 10 years ago.

I made headway once, losing around 50 lbs. in about 6 months with just some simple kickboxing tapes each weekday after work for about 45 mins. I couldn't believe once I put my mind to it how fast it came off. Then a back injury put a halt to the workouts. Once that was under control, I went back to the gym after getting hooked on bike riding. I went to a Spinning class with a friend, only to find out I would crash part way through the first class. Out came the secret of my hypoglycemia that made me have to eat before going to the gym, a concept I still have trouble understanding. Last year I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, which is a condition where you have joint and tissue pain most of the time. There is no fix, only pills that my body wouldn't tolerate. So, "you must lose the weight and tone up your muscles to make the pain lessen" as told by my $350/hour specialist. Great advice, so how do I accomplish that when my blood sugar doctor assured me I would not get this weight off because of my condition? My joints feel as if they are teaming up against me. This became a big issue after I fell in love with martial arts. I joined a local karate class (had never done martial arts before this) and absolutely became obsessed. Then when the foot injections started because of the plantar fascitis and neuromas in my feet (the onset to the rest of the fibromyalgia symptoms I was told) I was forced to stop. Then the therapy for my back pain started, I was assured I would not be going back to karate any time soon.

I've since had a major foot surgery in May 2008 that left me in a wheel chair and on crutches for about 6 weeks. I'm still in Physical Therapy and it's September. I fear Martial Arts is behind me now, unfortunately.

But, spiratually, I've found a way to deal with the stressors we have every day. Along this path, I've met some great friends and continue to have new adventures amaze me.

I'm turning over a new leaf and hope it will bring me good things and smaller clothes by Yule/Christmas of 2009. I've made the decision that something has to be done or my body is going to get back at me somehow.
