At age 77 I am healthy, have lost and kept off a little over 35 lbs. for 5+ years, but still have 10 to go to get to my goal - which is not a huge stretch. My goal is above the top of the range for my height, but my doctor agrees that it is a reasonable goal.

My biggest bugaboo is still the afternoon snack. I really do get hungry, but once I start, it is so difficult to quit after my planned snack. Therefore, it is either binge or don't eat at all. But, it doesn't have to be that way. I really can learn to control that binge difficulty. Sometimes I do it, but it is something I have to be really focused about. Putting notes to myself doesn't work for me for many reasons, but journaling works. So does sitting down with my knitting and an old movie, or anything that gets me focused elsewhere. It is also easy for me to try to focus on too many goals at once, so this is going to be my one and only goal until I hope to have a new, healthy habit for the rest of my life. For me, breaking an old habit and making a new one takes some doing and much more than the 21 days I have read about!

My Goals:
For one day at a time I recommit to eating healthy, planned afternoon snacks only when hungry (no grazing). I'll earn a big green check mark on my calendar for every day I'm successful.


My Program:
Eat a healthy diet in moderate amounts - mostly fruits, vegs and whole grains. (Have cut way back on meats)

Do the things I enjoy doing - help with grands, see family, knit, read, garden, tea or lunch with a friend weekly.

Get in activity off and on throughout the day.

Have some outside in the sun time whenever possible.



Personal Information:

My long term goal is to monitor my thinking and do away with negative thoughts, replace with positive, happy ones. It is possible to do; I have done it before, but the negative thinking is creeping back. Time to banish it!
