I thought it might be time to update my spark page. I joined Spark People in 2016 and in a few weeks I will be celebrating my fourth Sparkversary! I just can not believe that four years have gone by so quickly. In 2016 I was 66, still working and in the worst health of my life. I was a few pounds away from the dreaded 200's, had high blood pressure, was pre-diabetic and heart trouble was in my future as well. My Doctor laid out the truth for me and did not mince any words, believe me. She told me that if I didn't DO something I would not see my 70's. I went away from that meeting totally depressed and somewhat hopeless. After a couple of days of sulking I decided that I just had to at least try to fix things. I had seen an ad for Spark People on the internet so I took another look and decided to see what it was all about. I did (and still do) love to eat so the only way to make things better was to amp up my exercise level and replace some of my unhealthy snack addictions. The first week was great, I got up early, went for a morning walk and included a few vegetables (never a favourite of mine) in my food choices. I also ditched the soda and lived with the headache that followed. The second week again I did OK but by the third week I had mostly given up again. This is where I had to choose, better health and a longer life or not, it was that simple. I started again and this time I stuck with it. Four years later I no longer have high blood pressure, I am no longer pre-diabetic and my heart problems have mostly disappeared. I am now in the first year of my 7th decade (that sounds better than saying I am 70yrs old) and I have had some good days and some not so good but I will continue to seek good health and see just what the future holds for me.

My Goals:
My goal has not changed in the years since I dedicated my time to seeking out a way to live my best life. I will learn to like vegetables and I will replace soda with water and I will continue to spend more time outside walking instead of inside on the couch.

My Program:
My Program will always be Spark People. I tried all the others and gave up due to the fact that I lost more money than weight. Spark People Premium is the best program I have ever tried and is within my budget.

Personal Information:
I have been officially retired from the working world for four years now and I still love it. I am a dedicated cat person but have found that I can get a decent dog fix by stopping in at our local shelter and volunteering to walk some of the dogs that do not get enough attention. I always pick the older ones who have been there awhile and have very little chance of being adopted. My only problem is that I still want to take then all home with me.

emoticon I just turned 71 and had my 13th Sparkversary, so I'm glad to see you have stayed with Sparks. I joined at 214# and I'm at 135# now.

I certainly regret the yrs I was fat, since I so hated being that way. Thanks to my doctor putting me on medication, I have been able to lose the wt and keep it off the past 3 yrs. Listen on Youtube to an interview my doctor gave. He is 77.

AGE MANAGEMENT MEDICINE -WARD DEAN M.D.

Another wonderful youtube channel is Robert Cywes M.D. Check him out as he is the Carb-Doc. He has been a weight loss surgeon for 30 yrs in Jacksonville, Fl but works to keep his pts from having surgery and helping them overcome carb addiction. He says if they don't surgery will be a failure, and he works to have them avoid surgery. He is a very interesting doctor.

I've studied Astrology since I've been 10 yrs old as I'm a Libra with my Sun conjunct Neptune. I have Taurus rising which has made me too Venus and thus a "plump chicken" as Libra isn't a fat sign otherwise. I know now that I had PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) starting when I was 13, and no one talked about it. I stayed thin only because up until I was 40, I only ate one time a day (that is intermittent fasting now, but no one talked about that)
The Capricorn child was a child who had a hard life and had to take on a lot of responsibility early and was not allowed to be a child, thus she makes a good leader (think Dolly Parton who had 4 older brothers who never did an ounce of housework and she took care of 7 younger siblings; thus she didn't want children of her own. She started singing on the local radio at 10 to help out the family). Jana, the oldest Duggar daughter is a Cap and still single at 30. Capricorn has problem with the knees and headaches from stress. Capricorn lives a long life and gets to enjoy the freedom of old age.
