Hi I'm Martha-Ann.
I WILL endeavour to reach the goal I've set myself.
I CAN do it.
I want to be healthier and eat better.
I've had a few health problems, still a couple of quite biggies left, but I've beaten cancer and now I'm just getting on with life.

I love SparkPeople.
It has everything I could ask for.
Good advice, great ideas but most of all friendship.
The people I've met through this site are wonderful and are helping me towards a better, healthier way of life.

This is a Sanskrit proverb by the fifth century poet Kalidasa, it seems to sum things up perfectly.

Salutation to the Dawn.

Listen to the Salutation of the Dawn!
Look to this day,
For it is life,
The very life of life.
In its brief course lie all
The realities and verities of existence.

The bliss of growth,
The splendour of action,
The glory of power...

For yesterday is but a dream,
And tomorrow is only a vision.
But today, well lived,
Makes every yesterday a dream of happiness,
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Look well, therefore, to this day.
Such is the salutation of the dawn!

My Goals:
I want to feel more confident about myself.

I want to be as fit and healthy as I can.

I want to live to see my grandchildren (and possibly their children) grow up and be healthy and fit enough to enjoy them.

I want to work on small goals of 10lbs and give myself a small reward everytime I hit one.

I want to see a 'new' me!!

My Program:
Originally my programme was daily exercising, going for long walks and gardening but this has had to change due to illness.
I can't walk far now but I intend to try to keep walking for as long as I can.
I do chair exercises and I still garden, not like I used to, but I won't give up on anything.

Eating healthily.
It is not a diet, it's a healthy eating programme.
It's a way of life and it's going to be MY way of life for the rest of MY life!

Personal Information:
I'm from Yorkshire, England...we call it 'God's Own Country'.

I live in a small village in the country but am only a few miles from the sea so I have the best of both worlds.

I'm 71 years young.

My DH and I have been happily married for 48 years.

I'm a wife, mother, grandma, nana, sister, niece, cousin, aunt and great aunt.

I'm retired from primary education, l had to take early retirement due to illness and after a long struggle l'm now cancer free and back to being part of my community again.
I decided to lose weight and get healthy and am now working towards that goal.
l've been diagnosed with a deteriorating spine due to spondylolisthesis and spinal stenosis (arthritis of the spine) which is a bit of a challenge, it makes walking very difficult at times but l will conquer it.
l also have psoriasis, Morton's neuroma and osteoarthritis in the middle toes of both feet, right ankle and knee, left shoulder and both wrists and thu

Other Information:
My hobbies are very varied, everything from puzzles to zentangles, reading to gardening, walking to birdwatching, writing to photography.
I love language too, the nuances and foibles, so I enjoy dabbling with writing and son once called me a wordsmith...I wish I lived up to it!

    Oh, Martha,
Hard to believe it has been so long since I checked in with you.
Just thinking about you this morning and wondering how you are doing??

We are find - just a bit weary of still being in lock down. We have a governor that can't seem to make up her mind. So my son Geoff and I just keep mostly to ourselves. Don't see my daughter often but we do keep in contact by phone.

I am doing good - just have a hard time walking some days. But my BP is good and I am sleeping good.

Have done a bit of knitting and am reading more. Never did read much - but now have much time. And, Geoff and I are trying new recipes - and having fun cooking together.

Hope you and your husband are well.

I just wish I could come over and help you with your to-do list, except that I would probably just want to enjoy your garden. I always looks so inviting.
And would love to take one of those walks with your and your husband.

I am doing well - getting a bit more exercise - and walking. Still hurting some, but not as much.

July 2 my daughter, Kathi, and granddaughter, Jill will be going to Japan to visit my grandson, Jordon, who is in the Navy. Am so excited for them - will be such a good time for them.

I do not have any plans for the summer - except to enjoy our little space here. Love our back "yard" just above the river. And my knitting friends.

    Take care - love you,
