Goal #1: To live with JOY!
I'm a 30-something (ok,ok... VERY close to 40) mommy, wife, daughter, friend, and social worker. I've been fighting my weight since childhood, and am hoping that a combination of fitness and nutrition can finally help me achieve my goals!

In 2001, my 5'4" frame was carrying 420#. I was killing myself with food. I had a duodenal switch gastric bypass surgery. It was moderately successful, but resulted in significant complications, requiring 4 additional surgeries and malnutrition issues. I did lose weight, and my lowest weight was 240#. I maintained that for several years. Then I had an extremely complicated pregnancy, delivery, and recovery. During that time, I regained 70# and started the vicious dieting yo-yo cycle all over. I also learned something important... gastric bypass surgery is a TOOL, not a solution. And the effects of it can be short lived. I can no longer expect it to help me lose this weight.
In January, 2012, I decided to lose the weight once and for all in a holistic way. I enlisted the help of a trainer, and lost 80#. Unfortunately, in January 2013 I suffered a significant injury when I tore a large abdominal hernia. After three surgical consults (including the University of WA's hernia team), it's been deemed inoperable. So now I'm trying to lose the weight and stay healthy while living with my limitations!

Other Information:
I become frustrated easily when people who have never been obese think they understand my journey. While losing 20 pounds is difficult and admirable, there are different challenges when you have been obese.
