I am a SAHM. Several years ago I became ill and began gaining weight. After I got pregnant I starting gaining faster. When I reached 210 pounds, it hurt to stand up, and I had to ride a cart for shopping I knew it was time to lose weight.

Since simply standing to walk around was so hard, I didn't think exercising were in my cards. And because diets failed me in the past (Slim-Fast, Jenny Craig, Atkins, etc.) I did some research (I recommend the book "Body For Life" by Bill Phillips) and began changing my eating.

After eating unhealthy for so long, I knew going "cold turkey" wouldn't work for me (all my past diet attempts proved that) so I started by substituting in one healthy choice for each meal. Instead of fries with my burger, I ordered a salad. (or) Instead of burger with my fries I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich/no mayo. etc. Then I started eating a large salad with fat free or low fat dressing before each lunch and dinner.

After a while, this gets easier and I started adding a lot more fresh produce and taking out more processed foods. I switched to skim milk. Instead of just eating 3 meals, I started eating 3 smaller portioned meals and adding a healthy snack twice a day between the meals. So it went: Breakfast - Snack - Lunch - Snack - Dinner.

I've lost 25 pounds (actually, I lost 35 pounds, but gained back 10 pounds when I got sick and was stuck in the hospital eating hospital food w/ only 3 meals, no inbetween snacks, so I was so hungry by my next meal I was ready to eat the chair!). Pretty sad when the food served at the hospital is less healthy than what you would have made for yourself at home. But alas, I do now weigh 185 pounds.

I'm still out of shape and need help tying my shoes, but I've lost enough weight where I can now get up and walk around and exercise (and get my flexability back!).
