My name is Janet. I am 73 years old, 4"7" tall, have struggled with weight since age 37. Before that, I never weighed more than 100 pounds! I have two grown sons, was widowed in 2006. I worked at a homeless shelter, a Christian ministry, for 25 years, retiring in May 2007. Now I am a volunteer editor, working for several ministries from home. Technology allows me to volunteer for a ministry halfway across the country. Prior to working at the shelter, I was a high school business teacher for 5 years (St. Louis, MO), then a stay-at-home mom for 11 years.

In May 2009, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I finished treatment in October 2009, got my first "all-clear" report on 12/29/09 (my birthday). June 2010: I am now adjusting to the everyday challenges of secondary lymphedema. April 2014: 5 years cancer-free!

I have used a "habit-at-a-time" approach to building new habits -- getting enough water, eating fruits/veggies daily, cutting off eating 2-3 hours before bedtime, etc. SP's "Other Goals" area has helped me build consistency not only w/eating goals but also with spiritual and general goals.

I have gained much insight and practical help from four books/Bible studies: The Lord's Table (TLT), available free on-line at the Setting Captives Free website, Thin Within, Made to Crave, and Renewing the Mind books by Barb Raveling.

My Goals:
To honor the Lord by becoming free of a long-time habit of overeating, especially sweets.

My Program:
-"Eating" scripture daily
-Planning/tracking at SP
-Using the SP Other Goals page to set and track goals/boundaries
-Enjoying a wide variety of foods in smaller portions, including plenty of water and yummy fruits and veggies
-Cutting off eating for the day two hours before bedtime
-Wearing a Fitbit 24/7 to help me increase physical activity and improve sleep.

    Hi there - I just read your post about how you track your food. I was very interested in the idea of adding custom meals for different types of eating. I've only used them for different times of day - Morning Snack, Supper etc. But also I can isolate the food I eat that isn't planned, perhaps emotional eating. Then I can look back and see the patterns and habits in my eating. Thanks for the idea!
