Welcome to spark people. You've taken the first step - joining spark people is a great way to keep you motivated. Perusing the pages and reading all the tips to loosing weight keeps me motivated. Weight lose is slow in comparison to weight gain. I've always said I could gain 10 lbs in a week. :-) But losing weight takes time and patients.
I will give just one suggestion (if I may) . Try to go without soda even the diet soda. think about this 5 oz chicken breast = 12 oz of cola both have about 155 cal. Regular soda is loaded with calories and sugar.

Hang in there!! You lost 4 pounds right away--that is awesome.
My suggestion would be to not look at the scale every day. We all have natural fluxuations in our weights, depending on what you just ate, how much salt you've recently eaten, etc., etc., etc. I bet that if you check it out once a week you will see a bigger difference over time and you won't have to fight with the daily frustrations of seeing those little fluxuations.
Your body is a creature of physical laws--trust that. Fewer calories + more activity = weight loss. You can't fight the math. Just trust it and give it time.
