The most flattering picture I've seen of myself in quite some time..all about the angles, lol.
Starting weight this past October. 156.
Thinnest ever, at 114 lbs, ~7 yrs ago. Current goal is for 125, but I'd love to be this this again.

Trying to stay healthy in medical school..ironic, right?
Spark People worked for me in 2009. I used a diet based on lean protein, lactose free dairy & lots of fruits/veggies. The lbs came off, & my life took a turn for the better. I met someone, & I was accepted to medical school not long after.
Then medical school began, with a 40 mile commute each way, so my BF & I can be together (splitting the commute & living between his job & my campus). The driving & studying made me quite sedentary, & the lbs came back plus a few extra.

So I'm back on Spark People to see if I can make the old magic work again. Spark People helped me get down to about 130 in '09. I'm hoping I can do even better this time around. Yay Spark People!

My Goals:
Immediately:
8 glassses of water a day.
Stay away from dairy except yogurt & lactaid milk, no red meat, refined sugar or flour, processed food, or fast food.
More whole grains, fruit, veggies, & lean protein.
Long term, breaking it up:
150 - Check!
145 - Size 12 jeans -
Reward: dig out old size 12's. How I've missed them!
140 - Medium-sized tops -
Reward: NYE in the mountains...w/ 64 calorie beer :)
135 - Size 10 jeans-
Reward: go see a movie.
130 - Size 8 jeans -
Reward: thrift store denim.
125 - Size 6 jeans -
Reward: outlet mall shopping for reaching my birthday goal! I would be happy right here, but if I'm managing okay at 125 for awhile, I might go on to try for:
120 - Size 4 jeans - this is more for fun, as I've never maintained a weight below 125...but just in case:
Reward: zumba fitness dvds
115 - Unlikely. However:
Reward: new scrubs!
My Program:
In 2009 my strategy was to simply track my food choices over the course of the day, which did more for me than any other effort to help me keep myself strong with my diet. I plan to try this again on a more permanent basis, especially now that there's an app for iphone. I'm always thinking, now, about getting enough fiber, protein, calcium, and healthy fats...and how to do it all within my calorie restrictions.
I've put together some basic recipes that work with my nutritional goals.
I've also created a new shopping list, taken from these recipes, so that I can shop healthfully and efficiently.
In addition to these plans, I've also begun trying to incorporate a little exercise into my routine, including light walking and a little zumba. And lots of water!
Personal Information:
I live just south of Atlanta, GA and attend medical school.
Other Information:
A favorite quote of mine:
"It's so much easier to be happy."
-One True Thing
And another favorite quote:
"The brick walls are there to stop the people who don't want it badly enough."
-The Last Lecture
