    Hi There!

    Things are going pretty well, thanks for asking! I am still on the Full Fluids stage of my post-op diet. I live in Canada and I think the post-op diets vary quite a bit between here and the States. I have read/heard that many people get to start eating soft foods a week or so out from surgery in the States, but my hospital has a 6 – 7 week plan that I have to go through before starting on soft foods.

    My surgeon has me on the following post-op plan:

    Clear Fluids (only water, broth, crystal lite, apple juice, sugar free jello and popsicles) the day after surgery;

    Modified Clear Fluids (the above clear fluids diet including a meal replacement shake 3 times/day – I am on Boost Diabetic shakes at the moment) for 2 weeks;

    Full Fluids (adding in thinned oatmeal/cream of wheat, SF Pudding, SF yogurt, low fat/fat free cream soups made with skim milk, and the meal replacement shake) for 2 weeks (this is the diet I am on now);

    Pureed Foods for 1 week;

    Minced Foods for 1 week; and

    Then onto Soft Foods at week 7

    So I won’t be eating any “regular” foods for a few weeks still. Getting my protein in is fairly easy at this point because of the meal replacement shakes. I am following the diet plan that my nutritionist gave me pretty religiously. I think protein may be a challenge once I am done the meal replacement shakes (I am not required to have them once I start the pureed stage) – although I have bought some vanilla protein powder which I plan on having once a day thereafter. I think so long as meat, eggs and cheese are a part of each meal it shouldn’t be too much of a problem. But we will see how that goes once I get there!

    March 30 is coming up quickly – I start back at my job that day! You are going to do really well! There is such a great community online of post-gastric bypass patients, and everyone is always so willing to give advice and encouragement. I would recommend checking out the WLS community on Youtube if you haven’t already – there are TONS of great and very helpful videos on there that really helped me as a pre-op and will continue to help me through my journey.     You sound like you have a GOOD ATTITUDE about your surgery. I think so many people who have it think that their cravings and problems will go away, but find that they are still there and that is a discouragement. You have to have the attitude change, and I'm glad you do. Yes, I've seen programs about it "curing" diabetes, so that is great. I know you will be much healthier. GERD is a real problem, leading to issues as is Sleep Apnea, etc. emoticon
